City of Pointy Spires

I posted a picture from the City of Dreaming Spires recently, Lübeck could easily be called the City of Pointy Spires. The Old Town (Altstadt), located on an island in the river Trave, has go no fewer than seven tall, pointy and patina spires. Here are just three examples, seen from the former ramparts in the Trave.

The single steeple in the foreground also featured in my previous post and is part of Petrikirche (Church of Saint Peter). The twin towers, of which one unfortunately was being renovated, belong to the Marienkirche (officially St. Marien zu Lübeck, St. Mary's Church), one of the two oldest churches in Lübeck, built between 1250 and 1350. The towers are almost 125 metres high.

And a little teaser: the three steeples will also feature in a photo I’ll post next week, but in a completely different way. :-)

A nice Citysearch photo, Lars. Perfect light for this kind of image, and very pleasant colors. I wonder if a lower POV could bosst the reflection a little more, and increase the effect.

Ha! ha! Lars, you are right about the pointy spires! They do make a strong impression behind the already tall riverside buildings.
This is a very clear photograph, showing the buildings but also, creating a special f/g effect of extended, shimmering reflections across the water.

Ännu en fin bild från denna stad som verkar vara fantastiskt vacker, åtminstone den gamla delen. De tre kyrktornen dominerar bilden, men alla de gamla husen längs floden är sevärda, liksom den elegant böjda bron och speglingarna i den lätt krusade vattenytan. Dina bilder har alltid en fantastiskt bra skärpa, och denna är inget undantag.

The length of the river is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the brisge, pf the buildings and of the towers. The light is enhancing the beauty of the colours. Have a nice day.

A highly imposing architecture and the light really displays the charms of white wash buildings with the green spires help to hold the focus. This looks so subtle in rich colour and contrast against blue sky and water is another strong point. Your exposure is sublime turning this to a graceful capture. Congrats

De muziekschool is prachtig gelegen aan het water.
Ik hou van het wit-rode contrast tussen de gevels en daken.
De drie groene spitsen zijn natuurlijk het meest opvallend op dit beeld van de mooie kade.
Gelukkig genoot je van prachtig lenteweer toen je Lübeck bezocht.
De voorgrond wordt aantrekkelijk gemaakt met de vele kleine golfjes op het water.

A fascinating note you have written: and a very finely composed photograph to illustrate it. And, of course, mention of a little teaser - for which we shall have to wait until next week to discover!

The light on the white façades of these waterfront buildings is delightful, contrasting well with the dark water below and the clear blue sky above while the red roofs and green "pointy" spires immediately attract attention and are perfectly placed in the frame.

Lovely light, rich colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Wonderful reflections in the fg water with good color, sharpness and saturation. The pedestrian bridge nicely separates the fg from the bg. The red rooftops contrast well with the blue sky. Tfs!

I am so curious now about the next photo of yours!
This is a great spot which is called Malerwinkel.
I think also because painters are often seen there...
Bad luck with the scaffolding. But it could have been worse. I remember Hostentor being covered with scaffolding for many months.
You had an amazing weather.

Lars, that photo gives a glimpse to Lubeck town architecture seen from the ramparts dominating the river Trave. From there a barge and bridge crossing the river are visible. Three sharp spires stick out among all the buildings. Good pov, fine colors
