Photographer's Note
Dying Achilles(Achilleas thniskon) in the gardens. Achilles gazes skywards as if to seek help from the gods; his mother Thetis was a goddess
The Dying Achilles sculpture was created in Berlin in 1884 by Ernst Herter, a famous German sculptor as specialised in in creating statues of mythological figures. The statue was acquired by Empress Elizabeth (Sissy) and became the centrepiece at the gardens of her palace Achilleion in Corfu.
Paintings and statues of Achilles are abundant, both in the main hall and in the gardens, depicting contrasting heroic and tragic scenes of the Trojan war.

Czesc Piotrze, Świetnie skomponowane zdjęcie.
Nie mogłam sobie przypomnieć, gdzie był pałac Sissi, o której pisał ostatnio Gyorgy. A to Achilleion. Ja pokazałam tylko schody :(.
Wspanioałe miejsce i ładnie pokazane.
Pozdrawiam MAłgorzata

Hello Piotr,
The statue is well situated within the frame, and good view towards the columns of the arcade we can see beyond.
The green bushes and cypress trees added the missing tones contrasting the grey sculpture.
My best regards,
Ike

Hello Piotr,
It's a nice statue, and it fills the shape of the photo well. But to me the photo session at another statue in the background is more interesting. ;-)

Gert

Piotr, the sculpture depicts Achille probably wounded after a battle and dying. It is a remarkable artwork carved in the stone. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello Piotr,
So you did see the statue which I referred to yesterday! This is definitely the statue that I remember from The Achilleion Palace!
You have photographed the statue from a good viewpoint, to show the agony of expression, and from his body language. It is a fine sculpture.
You have used a good dof to focus on the sculpture yet give us a sense of place.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

piotr
at first view I thought it was painted and the white ink was spoiled, but I guess it is only the marble that is dirty and needs a cleaning. a nice sculpture in a nice position in the garden. OTFS.

Hello Piotr,
After the painting with Achilles's triumph, this is a good follow-up of a sculpture of the dying hero after he was hit in this heel. The gardens and buildings behind it make a great background as well.

Hi Piotr,
You have captured the statue in a good light, with the angle of the sunshine allowing much detail to be seen. The people in the background also make an interesting cameo performance here. Well exposed and sharp image.

Hello Piotr,
Well, what can i say to Achilles? He should have listened to his mother and worn a pair of sturdy shoes, covering his heels.
