Photographer's Note

The magnificently preserved 4th century BC amphitheater, with 14,000 seats, serves as the backdrop for this photo. Over the years, I've visited the ruins of Epidaurus several times, but in my previous visits, the site was crowded with tourists. This was a rare opportunity.

The athletic young teenager was doing a handstand at the center of the stage of the great theater of Epidaurus. A number of people surrounding her were snapping photos, and I joined them. On a personal note, a guard blew his whistle to discourage unorthodox behavior in the 2400-year-old ruins. I approached the guard and showed him the photo I had just shot with my iPhone 6 Plus, along with a National Geographic business card. I also told the man that the photo would appear in my NG Blog, he immediately changed his tune, encouraging the teenager to continue.
