Syros island view
Ermoupoli (Greek: Ερμούπολη), also known by the formal older name Ermoupolis or Hermoupolis (Greek: Ἑρμούπολις < Ἑρμοῦ πόλις "Town of Hermes"), is a town and former municipality on the island of Syros, in the Cyclades, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Syros-Ermoupoli, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit.[2] It is also the capital of the South Aegean region. The municipal unit has an area of 11.181 km2.Ermoupoli was founded during the Greek Revolution in the 1820s, as an extension to the existing Ano Syros township. It soon became the leading commercial and industrial center of Greece, as well as its main port. The renowned Greek Steamship Company was founded in the city in 1856. Thousands of ships were built in the various Syros shipyards.

Eventually Ermoupoli was eclipsed by Piraeus in the late 19th century. In the following decades the city declined. Recently, its economy has greatly improved, based on the service industry.

Hello Costantino,
This is a very attractive close view of the city built on the steep hill, looking almost like a pyramid. The flat roofs and pastel colours make me think of desert cities in North Africa or the Middle East, except maybe for the church. The light has a wonderful clarity.

Hello Dear Constantino,

Your photograph of the town reminds me of a wedding cake, each tier being slightly smaller than the previous one.
And, with these colours, it definitely looks sugary, good enough to eat!
What a wonderful conglomeration of houses!

A rather stunning and somewhat idyllic photo sight, I like the way you can imagine yourself sitting looking straight into focus and enjoying the view with the catchy church perched on the hilltop!

Full of own uniqueness and character of this tradional dwelling, vivid in details throughout and well contrast to the blue background. Indeed a nicely done shot, pleasing in the eyes. Congrats

Incredible density of the buildings clinging to this hillside. Fine upwards POV leading towards the church on the top of the hill. The blue sky provides a nice contrast for the scene. Fine work:) Thanks.

What a splendid image with all these white and yellow houses with all the same kind of rectangle window-opening climbing up the mountain and ending in the church at the top.

I recognize this view from my visit of Ermoupoli.
This town is one of the most spectacular places of the Cyclads, perhaps of all Greece. I really enjoyed my visit there.
A beautiful labyrinth whereby the houses are always built on a higher level of the steep hill.
Pretty soft tones of the facades.
