Photographer's Note

The amphitheatrical view of Syros town,Ermoupolis.At the end of the houses there are two churches.The left one belongs to the Catholic dogma and the right one to the Orthodox one.

The port of Ermoupoli

Ermoupoli (Greek: Ερμούπολη) stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site, with neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white houses cascading down to the harbour. It was built during the Greek war of Independence.

The City Hall, where Miaoulis Square lies ringed with cafes and with seating areas under palm trees. The "City of Hermes" has numerous churches, including Metamorphosis, Koimisis, St. Demetrius, Three Hierarchs, Anastasis, Evangelistria and St. Nicolas. The Archaeological Museum has many finds and the Municipal Library contains numerous editions. The quarter of the town known as Vaporia is where the sea captains lived. Along its narrow streets, stand numerous neo-classical mansions.

Hello Danos,
Such a wonderful view of the town built between the sea and the hills. The many small houses in different, pastel colours look most charming, especially in this very pleasant and soft sunlight. Very well done.

Hello Danos. It really looks like the amphitheater. With the houses one above the other, it reminds me of Santorini. nice churches with the blue domes. Awesome composition.

i really like and appreciate this one. glad you posted it, it shows us a wonderful overview of the landscape and how the city is growing up and up the hillsides. But I get the feeling they won't go any further up the hill??? the contrasting blues from the water to the sky are nice too, i like that. it all looks like Lego Land haha

Lovely wide viewpoint and delightful place to see those compact block houses on the slopes - the essence of this coastal town as if all seem to be piled on top of one another. Hello Danos,
It's a great view of the relatively large city and the hills immediately behind it. The two churches with their blue domes seem to protect the city from each side. There is a fascinating blend of pastel colours among the houses and you captured this view in a very well exposed photo with fine sharpness.

The blue dome of the basilica at right stands out amongst the surrounding 'sea' of warmer colored houses and roofs. Good sharpness and a superb wide angled panoramic view of Syros. Tfs!

Wonderful view of Ermoupoli seen from the sea.
It's a steep climb to both churches but they have such an extraordinary setting.
Good capture of this fantastic labyrinth of alleys and houses in pastel colours.

It fits so neatly into the hillside, nicely protected and taking every advantage of the sea.

A good overview of this city, which from the very edge of the sea, is ascending the slopes of those hills, a beautiful situation, but I think a lot of tiredness for those steep streets.
A nice color in very effective tones.
Good management of brightness and sharpness.

Hello Danos, a beautiful view of Syros; the buildings in a multitude of pastel colours nestling on the edge of the land.
I can see two beautiful domes, standing out with their curved roofs and contrasting with the straight lines of all the houses.
I assume that this was taken from a boat/ship as you approached the island?
