Photographer's Note

Lion Gate is the popular modern name for the main entrance of what was the Bronze Age citadel of Mycenae in southern Greece. It was erected around 1250 BC, in the northwestern side of the acropolis. In modern times, it was named after the relief sculpture of two lionesses in a heraldic pose that stands above the entrance.[1]

The gate is the sole surviving monumental piece of Mycenaean sculpture, as well as the largest surviving sculpture in the prehistoric Aegean.

It is the only monument of Bronze Age Greece to bear an iconographic motif that survived without being buried underground. It is the only relief image that was described in the literature of classical antiquity, such that it was well known prior to modern archaeology.

A very famous place, and rightly so. It's an impressive gate and its ancient history makes the view even more exciting. The photo is well balanced and well exposed, and the few persons animate the view.

Wczoraj widzialem gdzies wlasnie reklame Grecji i te wlasnie brame. Bardzo wyjatkowy ksztalt tej trojkatnej rzezby interesujaco wcisnietej powyzej wejscia.
Ludzie obecni w kadrze pozwalaja lepiej wyobrazic sobie skale tego miejsca.

excellent note, basically everything you mentioned there is totally new to me. its amazing that they can construct such things with such precision without modern technology. did they carve that stone above the doorway, the top stone with a curve...what are the odds they just found that, its probably cut. amazing. cheers
