Photographer's Note
You have to absolutely click on the link to see the details of the room better, in the Beta version. Please do so here Abandoned Interior Link.
As promised, here is an group of Interior photos from the latest abandoned home I explored in Djupivogur in Eastern Iceland.
What's so great about these homes, are the various stages of decay they're found in. For example, the house which Krzysztof just posted is in MUCH more decay in comparison. This house still is intact to some degree. It looks much more 'neat and tidy' But don't let that fool you - up close, everything here is pretty disgusting and I wouldn't want to touch it.
I really do hope you clicked on the link to see the room in greater detail. The stove is amazing, the items in the sink are not seen here, but in it was all broken glass, in the pulled out drawer on the left were old knives and sharp instrument tools, the pots and pans were very cool to look at. On the right the glass bottle was very cool as well. I love how the pots were left on the stove, as if they were cooking a meal and had to leave in an immediate hurry. Up close, the Stove was a main highlight for sure.
I like it when the home is in this condition, because we can almost see how it was lived in.
The BEST feature of all, was the newspaper that was left on the bench, it was from 1963!
Its too bad we can't post 5 or 6 WS photos, it was so hard to pick and choose only 2 addition WS's.
I'll show an upstairs bedroom scene, with a close up of the bedframe and its condition. Along with the bench seat in the living room. I wish I could show many more.
What I love about these homes are their untold and mysterious stories of abandonment. How many people lived here? a whole family? why was it left? why didn't it get torn down? possibly they were going to come back? The mystery is what draws me in each and every time.
I was lucky to find this home with its floorboards in walkable condition, thats a bonus. I was able to go upstairs and look around as well.

Hello Craig,
Strange to see all this material left behind; it's as if the owner left one morning and decided never to come back. Excellent documentary image perfectly realised.

Bonjour Craig,
Abandonné peut-être mais encore habitable. Le beau poêle de fonte peut encore fournir à la tâche. Bon choix de cadrage avec la fenêtre sur ton côté.
Amicalement

Hello Craig,
Amazing photos which give rise to a lot of questions that you have already formulated. Surely someone must know about this house and others and why they have been left like this. Maybe local journalists or members of the local assembly, historians at the university? You should check up some names and mail them. Seeing the workshops my first idea was why you had to sleep in the car when there were beds available. No? Too filthy? ...
Kind regards,
Gert

This may be abandoned, but looks as just recently it was occupied, Craig.
Anyway, entering here with some evidence of life still remain - but, also signs of "neglected" stuff.
Well lit photo, beautiful light-blue tone of the wooden walls.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Craig, initially looking at the main post, I thought that maybe a good sweep around might have done the trick, but after looking at the other shots and reading your note, I have changed my mind!!
Excellent set of shots.
They do make you wonder as to why it was abandoned and left in this state.
Regards Jean.

Hello Craig,
I have read your notes and looked at all the photographs and now ... there is only one way to go. You will have to write a novel about the family who lived here and the urgent reason for their disappearance!
Honestly, this really does conjure up a story!
To move from a house, yes, we've all done it. But to move and leave so many personal possessions behind doesn't seem logical.
My two thoughts are: fear or they won the lottery!
What do you think!
Great photograph for viewer participation!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig ,
As you say , much more arranged than in the Krsysztof'shouse !
But what a charm here , too . Despite the sadness of the scene , may be ...
About your explanation about your framing in a previous shot , I was sure that the reason was the dull white sky ;

Hi Craig,
It really seems that everything is the way it was left decades ago. Just wonderful. Also soft light coming from the window is just perfect. The bed WS shot in extreme angle is quite creepy.

Hello Craig, Interesting view of this abandoned house, knowing you i imagine how delighted you were here. You should go to Bodie, it is not so far from you :).
Funny to see the old items, I remember some from my childhood. 1963 - I started my University one year later, not long time ago, for you ages:). I like specially this stove, I had a similar toy. But I can't understand one thing - is it open? You went upstairs, so it is. But if it is abandoned, why there is no dust, no cobwebs? when I come back from my trips there is dust everywhere even when there is someone all the time there, haha. is it a kind of museum and someone comes there? it looks a bit like a movie decoration.
Kind regrad s Malgo

Hi dear Craig
A little bit sad but very poetic presenatation via your high sense and inspiration. There are so much implaication that you seemt to want to convey to us.
Simple but also suggestive presnetation as your life work.
All the best and have a good day! Takero

Hello Craig,
Cool interior. :-) It might be grungy, but the pale, blue color is lovely. I like the various bottles in the kitchen area, but those old newspapers are a great find, too. I'd be worried about wild animals living inside this abandoned house, and jumping out to greet me if I went inside!

Hi Craig
Be careful in there!
I cant help thinking it was once someones home and private kitchen area. What memories it must hold!! Looks as if it could be brought back from the brink if needed. Very good use of light & colours of a very well observed and pleasantly captured, Congrats
Best regards

Hello Craig,
What an amazing photo of the interior of one of these abandoned houses. It does look as though the people who used to live here just went away for a while, but somehow never came back. What could have happened to them? Excellent composition and the light coming in through a window on the right was perfect too.

Hi, Craig.
Sensational images of the interior of this abandoned house, see it as well as if the owners had left urgently, leaving things above furniture, produces a strange feeling, are magnificent photos of reportage.
Colorful, sharpness and brightness are captured excellently.
Very good composition, magnificent presentation.
You have a good day.
Warm greetings.
Luis.
P.S. The photo of the Oslo Opera, is taken from the sea, just in front of it and no further than 500 meters.

Hello Craig,
It's like the Marie Celeste where it looks abandoned hurriedly with no time to pack. Good sharpness and angle pov. Tfs!

Hi Craig,
I was commenting Krysztof's abandoned hut, and realised you had made the same experience as I have last weekend of an old abandoned manor of our neighbourhood ! Will post the photos one of these days !
Your abandoned house is not quite as destroyed as Krysztof's. It could nearly be a museum.
The stove is very interesting and still in good shape. Should be worth a fortune !
Nice to post such an image. It is real life after all and makes a change from picture postcards :-)
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards.
Marie-Louise.

Hello Craig
Aren’t you afraid that you never will be allowed to enter the Icelandic soil? These series of three abandoned picture is not a good recommendation for this country.
Brave to show us the other side of this beautiful country 😉
Have a good week. ,Groet Rob

Hi Craig
When you first posted a photo of this house, I was really curious what you found inside. It's amazing, 1963! We can assume that was when the house was abandoned, over half a century ago. It makes me wonder why they left, maybe the last person living in the house died and no one bothered to tidy up as it's a remote location?
You must have felt like an explorer to discover all this.
The photos are great examples of interior photography, perfect composition and exposure.
Best wishes
Kasia
