Hellnar Church, Snæfellsnes peninsula, Iceland
I positioned the camera so that the sun appeared as high as possible behind the steeple without creating lens flare.

"Hellnar is an ancient fishing village, a cluster of old houses and buildings situated close to Arnarstapi on the westernmost part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, Iceland.

Although Hellnar village used to be a major port of call for fishing vessels and the largest and busiest centre of fishing and fishing vessels in Snæfellsnes, there were also a few farms in and around Hellnar village along with quite a few semi-permanent and short-stay living quarters for seamen and the migrating workforce. Hellnar village can in all probability trace its function as a major port of call back to the Middle Ages, and the oldest written source of it being describes as a fishing port dates back to 1560."

Hello Trevor,
What a lovely shot in B&W. The church, its shadow, the clouds and the sun have all come out very well in monochrome. Good composition from perfect POV to keep the strong sun hidden behind the cross, it has helped the light as well as created a heavenly effect. Excellent photography. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Trevor. A truly interesting black & white photo from Iceland. Strong contrasts. Fine nuances between black and white. Above all, the light is presented masterfully. The light of the sun is captured excellent.

Hello Trevor - This is a shot very much to my liking. Your B&W conversion is attractive with a good contrast between the brilliant white clouds and the rest of the tonal range. I like the way you have positioned the low sun behind the steeple and the shot takes full advantage of the strong shadow cast by the church. Perfectly composed and managed this is one I would like in my gallery. Have a great weekend.

A veritable classic! The little church looks like a toy made from a shoe-box, but of course it's the light and your inspired choice of contre-jour shooting that makes this shot so good. The "halo" round the little tower, the dramatic low cloud, the apparent isolation, are all part of the effect; not by any means least, your decision to go monochrome adds drama and "class" (what's a better word??)

A powerful shot showing meticulous planning for position and black and white vision. The church is really beautiful against the mountain backdrop and the surrounding field, and there is almost a heavenly glow from the spire. The clouds add much visual interest to your composition. Great work.

its fantastic how the light is 'heavenly' striking the cross, i'm sure you did that on purpose :)

the end result is pretty cool looking indeed.
the dim light on the church walls is also very sweet, excellent all around atmosphere on this one.
