Fjallsárlón, a photo from Austur-Skaftafellssysla, Asturland

Photographer's Note

We were waited further so we had not a lot of time and juste made a too short few minutes break at Fjallsárlón glacier lake. This glacier lake is 4 kilometres square and sits in the south of Vatnajökull glacier, bottom of Hvannadalshnúkur, the highest mountain of Iceland. The small icebergs come from the Fjallsjökull glacier (which is part of Vatnajökull) that comes down into the lake. I had already seen this lake last year with a very similar light. So rather than showing you the same photos as last year, I chose this one with the Fjallsjökull in the background, icebergs in the lake and four people in the foreground : a photographer, a dreaming walker and two stones throwers. Yes, you can have fun at Fjallsárlón !

Hi Olivier,

Nicley put together this icelandic paysage. Fabulous light and the silouettes give the photo the scale. Fantastic exposure.

Hello Olivier,
This scenery is stunning and impressive, like so many other places in Iceland. I like the inclusion of a narrow slice of land at the bottom. It provides a change of colours and texture and the people add life and action and give us an idea of the dimensions.

Hello Olivier - The four figures bring this shot to life, they show the scale of the landscape off really well and the depth of the glacier is beautifully captured. I get a real impression of its ceaseless but slow march forward from this. Marvelous landscape and a shot which tells a story. Warm regards rosemary

C'est amusant, j'ai une photo presque similaire dans mes archives, avec des petites silhouettes comme ici qui se découpent sur ce superbe paysage. Un endroit vraiment magique.
