Photographer's Note

Having posted this image I realised how much I missed cold weather this winter. I have spent the last few weeks in mild UK, Majorca and Poland (yes, even there, snow and frost got "suspended" for the whole of my stay).

So, I decided to post another photo taken in Iceland last March, this time an image of Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon. In contrast to the warm places mentioned above - here is a destination where you can admire ice all year round, even in the middle of the summer.

You may remember I spent a week sleeping in my rental car during that trip... I can't say, however, I really SLEPT that night as from 9 pm to 3 am I was standing by the lagoon admiring and photographing the Northern Lights.

Just as Will has said about me - I trully am "a martyr to my art". ;-)

Hello Kasia,
I remember seeing the Northern Lights a few times at home when I was a kid but I don't think they were ever as mighty as these. Definitely this must have been an experience worth some kind of martyrship. It's a weird and beautiful view, especially in a surrealistic scenery as this.
What has puzzled me lately is whether you ever found a bathroom during that week of staying in the car... ;-)
I am sure you will be pleasantly cold for the next few weeks. ;-)

Faktycznie kraina lodu i ten kolor nieba zamykajacy z dwoch stron kadr. Chyba warto bylo ... meczennico ;-)
Rewelacyjne zjawisko, a dzieki temu zdjeciu jeszcze piekniejsze.

If I didn't know you better, I'd assume that this image had a lot of "help" from Photoshop. But of course it's straight. Straight and wonderful. Certainly a wonderful photograph, but I suppose I really mean the natual spectacle. But you've got to be there to get it. And got it you have. Bravo.

Magical rare moment, a once in a life time experience to witness a spectacular nature wonder. Absolutely amazing display of aurora in the cold night as the intense streak of green gives a stunning break emboldened by the amazing reflection which is a huge bonus there. I can imagine you jumping about with excitement when you saw this and your experience with the long exposure shines through. Only one word that says it all WOW, I'm in awe...

Chyba kazdy fotograf chcialby zostac "meczennikiem" kiedy taki obraz jak ten ukazal sie na horyzoncie obiektywu. Magiczne kolory i perspektywa krajobrazu nieprzecietna. Doskonale zaobserwowane i ujete zjawisko natury.

But I must admit that there are fantastic landscapes in northern latitudes .

Witaj Kasiu, Gert miał rację, że zazdroszczę Ci tego spania w samochodzie na Islandii, no i takiego widoku. Nigdy nie widziałam zorzy polarnej i cos mi sie tak zdaje, ze nie zobaczę, bo nawet gdybym chciała sie wybrac na Islandię, to raczej nie zimą. a spanie w samochodzie tez raczej malo prawdopodobne, bo sama samochodem nie jeżdżę.
Will dobrze Ciebie okreslił. Mnie tez tak wiele nie brakuje, ale ja idę raczej na ilość - zdjęć, kilometrów, kościołów, itd. A zdjęcie cudowne. Chyba nie widzaiłam piekniejszego widoku, te kry i zielona zorza a góry i dołu.

I dream to photograph northern lights one day and there is no better place than Iceland for this ! Northern lights and the fantastic Jökulsarlon lagoon, what else ? A great moment to see and to photograph. You were probably cold but it worthed it !

A bit of an extraterrestrial image with the green colour of the northern light.
With the reflections at the bottom of the picture the rocky land seems to float into space.

Well worth being uncomfortable for as this really is a first class photo of the aurora. The reflection really makes this a special image. We have booked to circumnavigating Iceland on a small ship for 12 days but not until May 2017. We will have land trips every day reaching some parts not easily accessible by road.

A wiec udalo Ci sie wypatrzec zorze polarna! Zastanawiam sie jakie szanse procentowo sa ze to sie uda.
Fantastyczna kompozycja. Nie tylko zorza ale tez w tak wyjatkowym miejscu i jeszcze masz jej odbicia w wodzie.
