Photographer's Note

I suppose you will find strange the photo and the note.
After a few days in Northern Ireland I came I today to Dublin. I found Belfast much nicer.
After I had come by bus, I left my backpack in the hotel and went for a walk. I went along the river to the area of st.Patrick cathedral and Christ church. on the way I saw many homeless people sleeping in the streets or begging for money. I saw the group of guys fighting, maybe drug addicts. I felt unsafe. it happens to me very rarely and was unpleasant, in the Temple area it was only a bit better. most of the bars are closed. in Belfast people were smiling, friendly and helpful, in Dublin gloomy. only in the Grafton street, the atmosphere was more joyful.

On Good Friday, April 3rd, 2015, a controversial sculpture known as “Homeless Jesus” was blessed and consecrated at Christ Church cathedral by the Very Rev Dermot Dunne.

The 7ft-wide bronze by Canadian sculptor Tim Schmalz is a park bench with a faceless cloaked figure lying on it. Passersby realise they are seeing a statue of Jesus only when they notice the holes in the feet.

“Homeless Jesus” has been presented to the city of Dublin by an anonymous North American Episcopalian benefactor, who is also giving the sculpture to 11 other European cities, including the Vatican City in Rome, where the sculpture has been blessed by Pope Francis.

I found the sculpture original and moving.. wider view in WS.

usually, I stay in hostels in dormitories. in Dublin, I self isolate in a good hotel in the very centre, to feel safer. I am glad that I decided for it.
