Photographer's Note

With Ireland experiencing a particular rainy summer, it's waterfalls like Torq Waterfall here were well watered and looking exceptionally green. I had the fortune of going to Hawaii a short time before my trip to Ireland, and this scene here reminded me of the lush rain-forest style waterfalls I saw there.

Up until this point, my photo-touring of Ireland had been limited to architecture and city scenes. All subjects I like, but I have a particular fondness for nature scenes so I was very eager to shoot this waterfall. Perhaps too eager, I unfortunately mistakenly shot this waterfall at ISO 1600. I only realized my error after hiking back to my car where my wife was already waiting for me to return. Since she had been getting bitten by the numerous insects at this site and was about 7 months pregnant at the time, there was no hiking back to re-shoot at ISO 100. Such is the way it goes sometimes, always a learning experience.

But in some ways I pleasantly surprised by the results considering the ISO.

Torq Waterfall which is found in Killarney Lakes National Park is fed by the Owengarriff River and drops about 18 meters (60 feet). It's a lovely scene and is a relatively short walk from the carpark. If you're spending any time in Killarney you'll want to seek it out.

Hope you enjoy.

Regards,
Doug
