Photographer's Note

Waiting for the ferry, Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre, Liguria, Italy.

Those of you who know the famed Cinque Terre villages will understand the significance of the ferries. To travel between the villages, it's possible to walk the scenic cliff paths, or take the train, which runs right along the coast through a series of tunnels. But the ferry is probably the quickest, and certainly the most scenic option: there are no roads between the villages, and Riomaggiore itself is quite isolated from the road system. So these two were watching the ferry moor up, prior to going down the steps to the quay to disembark.

The relative difficulty of reaching the Cinque Terre villages does not seem to put off the tourists who arrive in their droves. But we were there in late September when it wasn't quite so rammed as I gather it can be in the height of Summer.

BTW, this is the seventh time I've tried to upload this image: death of TE by a thousand cuts...
