Photographer's Note
Taormina is undoubtedly one of the Sicilian jewels. It is true that tourist overexploitation has led to an agglomeration of curious foreigners that shake the lives of the 10,000 inhabitants of the city.
Located two hundred meters high, on Mount Tauros, a splendid natural terrace, Taormina, the ancient colony Tauromerion, founded by settlers fled from the sacked Naxos in 403 a. C, was, razed by Syracuse, exalted by the Romans, and capital of the island for a brief period of Byzantine Sicily. From its capture by the Normans in 1078 until the eighteenth century, it was nothing more than a peaceful coastal town. Beginning in 1700, German and English writers such as Bartlett and Goethe, who embarked on inspirational circuits throughout Europe, stopped by Taormina. Even so, it would not be until 1866 when the railway joined the city with Messina, facilitating access for tourists from Northern Europe, some as illustrious as the German Emperor Wilhelm II.
Cradle of the rest of some of the most important writers of the twentieth century as Truman Capote, Tenessee Williams, Thomas Mann or Cocteau among others, and artists such as Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Dalí, Orson Welles or rite Hayworth, Taormina has stopped be a place of reflection to be part of one of the axes of tourist exaltation of Sicily.
However, such are the visual pleasures that the city can offer us that it is essential to visit it. It is worth highlighting the Greek theater whose importance is evident in the later use that the Romans continued. But it is not the only jewel, Taormina would be nothing without the natural adornments that enlarge the theater; the panoramic view of the bay of Naxos and Etna in the background make the Taormina Theater one of the most recurrent postcards of our visit to Sicily.
Strolling through the streets of Taormina, full of typical Sicilian souvenirs, we will find reminiscences of the occupation of the crown of Aragon, such as the details of the Palau Corvaja or the Ciampoli of Catalan Gothic style, or flowery medieval streets, without forgetting the cathedral of Taormina, Il Duomo of San Nicolo, the communal village with its gardens, or the palace of the Dukes of San Stefano, one of the best examples of Norman architecture on the island.
---------------------------------------------------

Hello Luis,
A fantastic vertical composition, which has a lot to offer. First of all the ruins of the Greek theatre look great with their pleasant, warm tones. The city and the mountains make a great background as well. The colours are very well-saturated in this bright and clear lighting.

Hello Luis,
I saw this photo briefly yesterday, before you deleted it. I guess you found a need to make some adjustments. Whatever you did it is now a photo in a very good shape. The colours and contrasts are quite intense and the view of the city on the hillside is most appealing. The magnificent ruins make a perfect focal-point in the foreground.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Luis, you had a beautiful day for your visit to the theatre, and you managed an excellent point of view.
We visited this site a few years ago, but I can’t imagine how you achieved this viewpoint.
I like the old walls in the foreground and the town below, and yet still in sharp focus.
The sunlight really enhances the scene.
Regards Jean.

What a great shot on this charming town. The sunlit compact buildings on the slopes and the ancient columns stand out so well against that blue sky. It's so evocative to explore all the ancient history. Beautiful clear shot and tfs, Congrats

Bonjour, cher ami Luis,

Hola Luis,
Some thoroughly interesting notes accompany this fine photograph of Taormina. You are right, this is certainly a 'jewel'! No wonder it was included in the 18th century 'Grand Tours'!
I love how well you have anchored the f/g with the ruins and linked it across the valley with the hills, the city, tumbling down the hill in the centre. The warm terracotta colours unite the buildings.
The photograph has great clarity and rich colours.
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Hola Luis,
wow, this is a spectacular point of view! I thought I may visit Croatia again or Sicily but for the next trip this year I have chosen Spain again... Mallorca. So La Palma soon and later Mallorca...
Fantastic composition here with the ruins in the foreground and the multiple layers of the diagonals in the distance.
Simply a breath taking view!!
Excellent work,

Hello Luis,
The sunlight illuminates the city and the ruins beautifully, very nice opposite the darker colours of the foliage on the left and the mountainside further on.
A wonderful picture of the ancient city, the new town and their natural environment.
Very colourful and it works well in the vertical format.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Luis,
You were lucky to have a clear blue sky. The fg columns of the ancient Greek Theatre add depth and layering to the composition. Good colour and sharpness too. Tfs!
