ENGLISH: This is Capo Gallo in Sferracavallo, Palermo. Behind where I took this photo are a number of shrines dedicated to victims of the Mafia. It is difficult to believe that a place so beautiful can have witnessed such evil. Fortunately it seems that the stranglehold of the Mafia has weakened with the imprisonment of Riina. Let's hope this beautiful place is never marred by such evil again.

ITALIANO: Questa e' Capo Gallo a Sferracavallo in Palermo. Dietro di mi sono stati molti santuari dedicati alle vittime della mafia. Mi ossessiona che un luogo così bello può avere visto tale cattiveria. Spero che non mai accada più.

Hello Lisa,
I like the use of the vertical format to create a deep perspective looking over the rocks towards that rocky headland. Light and colours are both very attractive and the image has excellent clarity. Looks a beautiful spot.

I love the long foreground, that gives a lot of depth to the image. The vertical framing is perfect as well as the light .

Hi Lisa,
The noteable cliff is seen when coming on the landing path to Palermo airport, and the other side is Mondello.
Magnificent mountain, did not know about the story you told about - but great earth formation, like "rising" from the sea, well taken in photo.

Victims of mafia, brrr. Beautiful place near Palermo. I was in Palermo when I was young (it was many years ago), I was a bit scared of mafia, but Sicilians were suc h wonderful people - curious, hospitable, i have great memories from that time. Impressive rock near sea.

Molto bello il POV verticale da te scelto e la qualità fotografica.

Ciò che accenni nella tua nota, fa parte del passato.
Non si può dimenticare, ma è anche meglio non pensarci troppo.
La realtà di Palermo oggi è diversa e tu hai avuto modo di vedere con i tuoi occhi.

Hello Lisa,

Your vertical format was a good choice to link together the rocky f/g and the rocky cliffs, and still give them a sense of height, a sense of grandeur.
Fine thirds composition and excellent clarity.
Like you, it is hard for me to believe that such beauty can hide such evil deeds!

Wonderful place. I like the contrst of distance, the well texture rocks very near on the foregound and the heights of the summit on the background, making our eyes change smoothly from one to the other. The waters are a great division for the two parts. Very good work, congratulations!

La rudesse du relief fait penser à celle de la vie de beaucoup de gens qui ont été broyés par cette organisation. Il faut espérer que ces temps sont révolus. Très belle composition sur ces rochers qui se mêlent au calme de l'eau et du ciel !

A wonderful composition, in which the vertical choice seems very successful, to show these rocks and the sea to look after following the steep hill to the bottom.
Perfect both good light, such as natural and beautiful color. A good job.

hmmm...such contrasting subjects here...i certainly was not expecting to read THAT when i looked at this photo!
I guess i'm ignorant when it comes to the history of the Mafia in these places...anything you could add for me would be helpful, and of course interesting too :)
as for the photo, honestly, its one of your best...strange to say that but i think its true. just look at the clarity, sharpness, light management, the colors, and the best feature - the wispy clouds.
so much to admire with this photo.

Beautiful inlet with crystal clear water and majestic mountains in the BG. The vertical format gives a great depth to the very picturesque scene, pity it has such an evil past but who would have known if not for your note! TFS
