Photographer's Note
The 17 contradas of Siena have fountains where new contrada members are baptized. Most of the fountains were built in the XX century.
This is the fountain of the contrada of Chiocciola (Snail). It was the first one to be installed, in 1947, made by sculptor Fulvio Corsini. The inscription on its base reads: "When victory smiles on the Snail, good wine will flow from this fountain." It is located in front of the Contrada's oratory, in via San Marco.
