Sottofamiglia: Satyrinae

Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 27-31

Maschio: colore bruno scuro. Due macchie ocellari nere centrate di bianco nelle ali anteriori, tra la prima e la seconda nervatura mediana come pure tra la prima e la seconda cubitale.

Femmina: colore bruno, fascia postdiscale più pallida contenente due grosse macchie ocellari nere centrate di bianco nelle ali anteriori, tra la prima e la seconda nervatura mediana, come pure tra la prima e la seconda cubitale.

Distribuzione: tutta l'Italia escluse le isole

Habitat: specie xerotermofila, frequenta le pendici scoperte dal piano basale a quello montano e cacuminale tra 200 e 2100 metri s.l.m

Generazioni annuali: una con sfarfallamento in giugno-agosto

Piante nutrici: Deschampsia caespitosa, Stipa pennata, Stipa capillata, Festuca sp.

This butterfly is quite discreet, so it could easily be overlooked. But you saw it and managed another beautifully sharp and well exposed photo.

The details of the butterfly look great and they look so sharp against the blurry grass in the background. Also this flower the butterfly is sitting on top of is clearly seen.
