The Fishing Village, a photo from Trapani, Sicily

Photographer's Note

ENGLISH: Although there is no food in this photo, it still has very much to do with food. We are in Castellammare del Golfo in northern Sicily which as you can see is a fishing village. There is an ancient tonnery (tuna plant) here aswell, although it has long closed its doors.

ITALIANO: Anche se non c'e niente cibo nella questa foto, il cibo, specialmente le pesce e frutti di mare, sono molto rilevante a Castellammare del Golfo in Sicilia.

La luce era molto difficile da gestire quel giorno, infatti nella mia panoramica qualcuno mi ha fatto notare, ma nonostante tutto te la sei cavata bene.

voglio andarci a Castellammare del golfo, sembra essere un posto ideale per noi fotografi dilettanti. la tua è una bellissima inquadratura che, con le reti in primo piano, evidenzia la natura principale del paese.

Hi Lisa,

Great point of view, allowing you to include the fishing nets in the frame which is a great addition and helps add to the story of the place and also giving you great diagonal lines through the image too. I like also how the hill rises in the top left of the image, excellent depth. Very well done. thanks for sharing.

Dearest,
Nice shot, a couple of things to comment on.
What happened to the headroom for the mountain, having the crest just touching the frame line is....well, not done, tsk, tsk.
I can see you've been shooting into the back light, but to me the village looks under exposed, a little muddy in the blacks and quite contrasty.
Love the composition, the foreground fishing nets work great in setting up the scene and capturing the essence of the village.

Yes there is a work shop for your perusal and edification :))

Bonjour Lisa,
un peit port de pêche bien situé, entouré de belles montagnes un peu protectrices. Les lumières un peu fortes donnent un ciel très clair , mais les couelurs au sol et notamment l'eau, sont vraiment bien rendues.
Une photo nette qui profite d'un excellent POV.

la lumière était un peu forte ce jour là et donnait des ombres très marquées mais cela n'empêche pas d'admirer le lieu et le bon POV que tu as trouvé pour le mettre en image.

looking at all the houses at the far right, man...i can only imagine and dream!
i like the contrasting forms and elements, especially the tangled mess of netting, mixed with the charming seaside.
looks very warm with the lighting.

One of the most beautiful place in Sicilia, , (the road was on the hilltop right to the hill on pic.), dear Lisa.
From that hill you can see "fishing fields" on large square nets out in the bay (not in pic.), and your note is accurate.
A fabulous photo on an intrigued POV.

I like the framing from the fishing gear, which both sets the scene and creates depth in the image. The lighting is very attractive and the image has good colours and sharpness. No doubt, this little town has some fine fish restaurants:-)

it´s sometimes a bit hard to follow your uploads, the day before as food-stylist, today in a fotogenic village.. allthough that´s fine, i love the changes, breaking the rules etc..
seems to be a lovely fishing-village and you´ve captured it from a splendid pov with great colors and sharpness ..

The light was not favourable here but the subject is deserving.
You chose a good pov which allowed you to show both the town and the lovely hill to the right which makes the composition more balanced, and the inclusion of the nets and boat in fg frame the scene well. I can smell the sea and the stink of rotten fishes in the nets!

È molto incantevole questo villaggio. Può stare alcune ore in un tale luogo, solo a contemplare.
Buona idea di avere incluso le reti in primo piano, da una idea dell'atmosfera.
Ti chiederò l'anno prossimo che luoghi ti sono particolarmente piaciuti in Sicilia per preparare il mio itinerario.

Hi Lisa,
I love the POV with the nets in the foreground that puts us in the heart of the place. It looks like a very nice place but you had not very good light conditions, it looks a bit strong and makes the composition a little colourness. You probably took this one in the middle of the day, didn't you ?

Hi Lisa,
Those fishnets are simply perfect choice for the foreground. Town and background mountain fit perfectly on this scene. And nothing too modern is visible over there. I wonder how on earth they manage to keep those nets in order.

Hello Lisa,

It is easy to comprehend the strong link with food; the f/g reveals interesting details of nets and a boat, parpamount in the capture fish. It does make a most original, interesting f/g, and one which helps to give depth to the rest of this shot.
You have a good contrast between the sunny and shady areas - great light control.

Ciao Lisuzza, sono tornato un pò indietro nel tempo...quando ancora non ti conoscevo..curiosando tra la tua bellissima galleria..e ho trovato questo spettacolo di foto...le reti in FG incorniciano questo stupendo porticciolo, a me la luce piace molto e la profondità buona per poter apprezzare tutti i bei dettagli, forse è un pochino storta...ma non ne sono sicuro, a volte le prospettive giocano brutti scherzi, è comunque uno scatto stupendo, un abbraccio, valter
