Photographer's Note
The city of Venice was once rich and powerful. Its riches came from trade with other countries near and far. The chief citizens of Venice were rich merchants. The story written by Shakespeare goes that, the richest of these was Antonio, a merchant well known for his honesty and kindness. He borrowed money for his friend Bassanio from a wicked money lender Shylock, but could not return it because his ships (the ones you see) never came back from high sea. As per the agreement Shylock claimed pound of Antonio’s flesh, but was allowed so, without shedding a drop of blood……
That’s how ancient Venice was fictionally popular for.
Modern day Venice, is a city in northern Italy which is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture and its artworks. Venice has been known as the "La Dominante", "Serenissima", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals", water ways through canals is the principal mode of communication. Luigi Barzini described it in The New York Times as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man".Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe's most romantic cities.
In this shot you see Gondolas, that cruise the Adriatic sea on which Venice is located as well as cruise the city canals.

Hello Satyakki,
A classic but very beautiful shot of the city with the many names.
I like the low POV just above the water but high enough to overlook the long row of gondolas.
The blue tarpaulins on the gondolas add a strong colour to the picture. I also like the inclusion of the lamp in the upper right corner.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Satyakki, I had to comment on this shot of Venice, I returned from Italy only a week ago & was there about a month after you, perhaps standing in the same exact spot opposite Piazza St Marks, I wonder.
Love your note, interesting & entertaining, nicely composed with the beautiful row of parked gondolas creating a strong & colourful line, lamp, poles & church all add to the unique beauty of this city that you have so well captured. Thankyou
Regards
Santo
