San Brizio, a photo from Perugia, Umbria

Photographer's Note

La chiesa di San Brizio si trova nell’omonima frazione del comune di Spoleto.
Così come la chiesa di San Sabino e la chiesa di San Giovanni di Panaria, è legata alle affascinanti leggende del primo cristianesimo umbro e spoletino. San Brizio, proveniente dalla Siria, era giunto a Spoleto per predicare il Vangelo; qui venne imprigionato e poi morì. Secondo la tradizione il santo fu sepolto all’interno del sarcofago romano custodito nella cripta.
Poiché si diffuse rapidamente la venerazione della tomba, tra il IX ed il X secolo venne costruita una prima chiesa di cui oggi rimane una colonna messa in opera all’interno della cripta.
La costruzione attuale risale alla prima metà del XII secolo. Della facciata originaria rimane l’elegante bifora centrale. L’interno è a tre navate suddivise da colonne e pilastri; alcuni sono materiali di riutilizzo provenienti da costruzioni romane. Il presbiterio è diviso dalla navata centrale tramite un imponente arco trionfale. La cripta a quattro navate riprende lo schema delle cripte di San Ponziano e San Gregorio Maggiore a Spoleto.

Hello Silvio,
I like how you have composed the image with the rows of sunflowers nicely leading the eye towards the distant horizon and those... very strange clouds. What happened to the sky ? Your pp work has produced some strong burnt highlights around the church, and there is a part of the sky that seems very unnatural. Anyway, good idea to include the church on the right, it balances that part of the photo that otherwise would look a bit empty. Nice saturated colours and good sharpness.

Avec le contre jour , les conditions de lumière n'étaient pas idéales . Ce la se ressent sur le ciel n en partie "cramé" , en particulier autour de l'église . Dommage , car la composition est vraiment superbe , avec ce magnifique champ de tourrnesol , et la belle église qui domine la scène .

Ciao Silvio una foto bellissima, i girasoli in primo piano sono fantastici nei loro dettagli, la chiesa sullo sfondo e' un ottimo soggetto, sarei tentato di metterlo tra le favorite se non fosse per il cielo un po sovraesposto, il controluce e' bello ma sempre difficoltoso nell'era digitale..

The length of the field of flowers is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the flowers, of the house and of the church,,A good mangement of the backlight which does not hurt the output of the colors. Have a nice day.

Un meraviglioso campo di girasoli, e non solo, una bella chiesa ... per finire, il cielo accompagna mirabilmente e completa una grande scena.

La composizione, qualità del colore, nitidezza estrema ... è un grande set, rotondo e pieno di carta ...

very impressive photo. I like very much the sunflowers field in the foreground it is so pretty!!
The church itself is lovey too. The sky around is sadly a bit burned but it results in a funny effect as if it was picture from a dream, may be with an angel standing behind the church or God himself present inside :)

I know there's an over white sky, over exposed with the hash sunlight - but still...its a lovely scene with the yellow sunflowers going deep into the photo.

Wow! Missed this one. Spectacular repetition of the sunflowers and the pp effects give this image the look of a painting. Excellent warm vs cold color contrasts between the blue and yellow hues. Punchy light contrasts and the tower at right makes a fine focal point. Tfs.
