Edicola di Sustrico

La costruzione più antica del casale , presumibilmente trecentesca, è una torre a due piani coperta da tetto a duplice spiovente illuminata da finestrelle ad arco ribassato e conclusa in alto da un semplice aggetto di lastre di pietra, che reca sul lato volto ad ovest una nicchia, un tempo coperta da tetto displuviato ora rimosso, con un bell’affresco, databile ai primi anni del secolo XV, raffigurante la Madonna in trono col Bambino (foto principale), sul fianco sinistro della nicchia è una rara raffigurazione, forse l’unica esistente, dei santi spoletini, fratelli e diaconi, Serenico e Serenedo (VEDI WS), sul fianco destro un santo vescovo, forse San Martino (VEDI WS).

I pity the damage, even more so for the WS, but it is still a charming painting, even though the artist was not among the greatest of his time. But the photo is a good document with good colours and clarity.

Ciao Caro Silvio,

This fresco would have been a remarkable document when it was painted, some 600 years ago. It clearly depicts the love and warmth of a mother for her child, whilst the halos explain the religious significance of the figures.
It is a pity that the fresco is so damaged but you have still shown us a very sharp, neatly cropped photograph.

Ideal very old painting of this Virgin with the Child, I love the feeling of serenity that they transmit, it is a pity that a part of the head of the Virgin has been lost.
