Photographer's Note
A picture taken a couple of days ago in heaven... in less than a hour time, i had snow, sunshine, and rain.... looks like trouble up there ? Was it really heaven or better hell ?
Nobody knows or should care !
Let's live our life here first, dream it, fly it, enjoy it ... what will happen next is so far away….
Keep smiling
Anthony

After so many question of Where is it ?? here is the answers...
The Hill of Crosses is a site of pilgrimage near the city of Šiauliai, in northern Lithuania. The first crosses were placed on the former hill fort in the 14th century.
The real reason for the Hill's existence lies buried in Lithuania's history. Over the centuries, the place has come to signify the peaceful endurance of Lithuanian Catholicism despite the threats it has faced throughout history. Invaded by Russia during the 1795 partition of the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth Lithuania disappeared altogether from the map of Europe. When the old political structure of Eastern Europe fell apart in 1918, Lithuania once again declared its independence. Throughout this time, the Hill of Crosses was used as a place for Lithuanians to pray for peace, for their country, and for the loved ones they had lost.
Most recently, the site took on a special significance during the years 1944-1990, when Lithuania was occupied by the USSR. Continuing to travel to the Hill and leave their tributes, Lithuanians used it to demonstrate their allegiance to their original identity, religion and heritage. Although the Soviets worked hard to remove new crosses, and bulldozed the site at least three times, the new crossess continued to appear and by 1985 the authorities had given up.
Today it is said that more than 50 million crosses can be found on the site...

Incroyable photo !

Wow, a very dramatic capture, Anthony. The collage of crosses and the muted color evoke a sense of foreboding in the homeland of my ancestors. TFS, Great work, Mike

So very well taken Anthony - the light and rendition of the rain against this special place has all the drama it deserves - it reminds me of a hill of crosses that Jerzy (bantonbuju) took me to in Eastern Poland - it's fantastic that people kept coming and putting their crosses there through everything.
A very interesting and thorough note too - many thanks.
best wishes Kev

Une photo remplie de mystères, on se croirait dans un film d'horreur au temps de l'Alloween. Bonne qualité d'image sous de telles conditions et excellente note.

Very nice. Great mood. Great color and composition also. Especially love the rain effect, sky and the black and white crucifix hanging off the cross in the lower right side. Great work.

Very powerful photo, creepy but mystic but deep, everything in the frame helps to make a gorgeous picture, perfect to be the poster of a movie.
Congratulation

Anthony, this is a very creative use of the elements around you and keeping absolutely only the essentials to make your point. At first it seems cluttered, but it's not... the crosses = one maze, one message. One unified barricade to whatever happens, rain or shine. It's really very powerful as a visual.

salut anthony,
i read about the place...there is a quite similiar place in Grabarka, Poland. where people do their thanksgivings with the crosses...

Great shot Anthony. There is a really disturbing atmosphere here and you captured it really well. The scene is evoxative of the underworld, and you chose a nice title to illustrate this. Good work!

Hi Anthony. A very dramatic and almost surreal effect. The lens may have compressed the scene making it excellent. Interesting notes. TFS. Murray.
