‘Bitola - Ishak Çelebi Mosque’
A short follow-up from my previous photo about the Ottoman heritage in Bitola.
Two photos show the Ishak Çelebi Mosque.
The main photo is taken on the busy Magnolia Square and the second one (in the WS) taken on the other site of de mosque.
The Ishak Çelebi Mosque is the largest mosque in Bitola.
It was built in 1506 and was named after its founder, judge Ishak Çelebi. The minaret is 50 metres high.
Once the mosque was part of a much larger complex including a madrasa and shops with revenue coming in from surrounding vineyards and 20 watermills.
Information from The Bradt Travel Guide Macedonia.
Three other pictures are taken in the nearby old part of Bitola.

Hallo Paul
I liked Bitola although it did rain much of the time I was there. Nice to see it in sunshine. Excellent sharpness and the mosque makes a great backdrop. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
You are very generous with your photographs and show us a whole range of different settings, some which are very particular to the area and a shopping street, which is typical of shops and shoppers.
I agree with your main choice, which is so vibrant with a sense of movement, colours and people, yet still has the imposing details of the mosque and its towering minaret.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
The main photo and WS #4 make me feel I'm back in Turkey (except for the cyrillic letters on the sign). You didn't have much of a choice for the main photo. It's so full of life and colours, and the fountain is a good foreground. The other pictures are more undefined Balkans and also very enjoyable. The "Spice Girls" don't look too enthusiastic to be in the photo, but I hope they didn't harm you afterwards.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Paul,
Vous avez bien capturé le fonctionnement de la fontaine. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de la Mosquée Ishak Çelebi et de la fontaine. La lumière rehausse la beauté des couleurs. Bonne journée.

Hi Paul,
Great use of the fountain as a foreground for the attractive mosque. The story of this region is so complicated. People added some more color although you have hidden them behind the fountain.
Great workshop photos as well.
I rarely use the Bradt guidebooks, I noticed they have guidebooks to some niche destinations. I have indeed the Bradt guidebook to Bosnia and Herzegovina, I think it was the only guidebook I found to that country. Now I purchased one for Cape Verde as well from Bradt.
Excellent work,

Hello Paul, I was so close to Bitola and I haven't visited this interesting city. I would like to see everything but it is not possible, It looks like a town in Turkey. I was in the Balkans in 1968, there were people there still wearing traditional Turkish clothes and preserving the customs.
Fantastic picture. I like the view behind the water drops.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Paul, I seem to have got behind with your posts!
Four excellent shots that give us a real flavour of this town.
I like this viewpoint looking through the falling water of the fountain. We are still able to see the mosque quite clearly.
I was amused by the stall with the two women selling their produce; it all looked the same to me!
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean

Hello Paul,
This view of the mosque, with the fountain and all the people, is vibrant and interesting. I might like the WS photo from the opposite side a bit more, though. It's a very quiet scene, and I can focus more on the details of the mosque. This is still a nice capture, with a little bit of everything in the frame. I hope all is well. Take care!

Hi Paul.
Excellent vertical composition, which gives us a nice foreground with the water of the fountain, while behind it rises the minaret and the dome of the mosque.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.
Very well done. I love it.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.
