Photographer's Note
‘Tetovo’s Painted Mosque - 5’
The two girls sitting on the wall immediately recognized me as a foreigner and spoke to me in German. They turned out to be Albanian Macedonian and lived in Switzerland.
The man sitting next to them is their father.
Many residents of Tetovo have emigrated to Switzerland.
In the WS a photo of a mausoleum (the ‘türbe') houses the resting places of Hurshida and Mensure, two sisters who financed the construction of the mosque in 1438.
In the Ottoman Empire a tomb was called a ‘türbe’.
Most mosques of the time had sultans, beys or pashas who financed their constructions, but the Šarena Džamija, was financed by two sisters who lived in Tetovo.
The second picture was taken inside the mosque.
Here ends my report about a mosque that I personally found particularly beautiful. It wasn't the biggest I've ever seen. Nor the richest. But the most money does not necessarily yield the most beautiful.

Hello Paul,
It was interesting to learn that females had both the money and the power to instigate the building of this remarkable mosque.
This main photograph is beautifully composed, featuring the exterior of the mosque, animated particularly by the two girls and then by the crowds behind them (minus shoes).
Beautiful as this exterior is, it really can't prepare you for the riot of patterns and colours internally, which are amazing!
I love how you have framed the mausoleum!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
This photo puts the visitors and especially the two little girls in focus. There seems to be a quietly pleasant atmosphere among the men sitting at the entrance, which I recall from most mosques I have visited. Only once, in Diyarbakır in southeastern Turkey, have I met an openly hostile attitude. The WS provide very good and interesting complements to the main photo. The interior is extremely colourful, to say the least.
Best regards,
Gert

I agree to the last paragrapg, Paul, money does not necessarily yield the most beautiful, in any aspect in life...
Fine architecture photo with the added two girls, gave charm to the outcome.
Good afternoon,

Bonjour Paul,
Les tapis colorés attirent le regard. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de cette partie de la Mosquée de Tetovo. La présence des personnes anime la scène. Bonne journée.

Hello Paul, an incredible place.
In the w/s shot, we see so much decoration, a rainbow of colours. The artwork must have needed a lot of planning for it to work out so well.
The two girls in this shot are the only people obviously aware of you and your camera.
Three excellent shots, thank you.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Paul, last post dedicated to this fantastic surprise to complete the series of magnificent surprises. Also a moment to talk about the theme of the many migrants from this region to the German-speaking countries, a large WS with the details of the curious balcony and an obligatory dedication to the sisters who financed the construction of this jewel and rest in the small mausoleum. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hallo Paul,
Een mooie combinatie van de vele schilderingen van de moskee en de vele bezoekers die achter de pilaren zitten. De schoenenrekjes en de twee meisjes zijn leuke details tussen de pilaren.

Hello Paul.
The interior of the mosque does not disappoint us at all, if not that we see it with interest enjoying its colorful and showy paintings, it seems that it was time for the men to meet.
The photos of the WS are wonderful, ideally the garden with the pavilion, the variegated design and colors next to that interior balcony are surprising.
Both the color and the brightness of the photo are magnificent, highlighting the beauty and sharpness of the composition.
Very well done. I like it
Have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Goedenavond Paul
Bedankt.
Prettige avond verder,
John

Hi Paul
Another 3 good photos from this colourful mosque. The main one is a good one of the men gathered (no women though).

Salut Paul,
Ces décorations sont vraiment originales et photogéniques, bien cadrées sous un autre angle et avec ces personnes qui donnent vie à ce lieu, bien les deux petites filles en points fort, bonne luminosité et netteté.

Hi Paul
Good repetition of the columns and arches, with the painted façade adding interest. The worshippers animate the scene and the 2 seated girls seem disinterested in the proceedings. Tfs!

Hello Paul, Nice girls in blue, I suppose they are twins. Nice scene at the entrance to the mosque. The balcony in the Workshop is really amazing. How I am envious that you saw this gem.

Hello Paul,
Another set of lovely photos from this mosque. I like the daily life scene from the exterior of the mosque. You framed the mausoleum quite well. And yes, mosques do have pulpits, they are called "mimbar."

Hi Paul,
It is a beautiful collection of photos. In the workshop there are some beauties as well.
Yes I suppose it is hard to pick the most beautiful place, when one has seen so many, but of course people have different tastes. This is certainly a place I would like to visit someday but since there are no beaches in North Macedonia then it will have to wait...
Great scene with the little children who look like twins.
Very attractive mosque and regardless whether it is the biggest or the best it is definitely very unique and extraordinary.
Thanks for sharing it with us,

Hello Paul,
This is another great photo combining the mosque and daily life. The two sisters immediately catch my eye because they are dressed exactly alike. They are also the only girls in the scene. Take care!
