Marsaxlokk Harbour

So here’s photo #20 from Malta and the last one for the time being. I’ll end where I began, in the harbour of the town of Marsaxlokk with some traditional luzzus.

Marsaxlokk is a traditional fishing village of about 3,500 inhabitants. The name is derived from the Arabic word marsa, meaning harbour and the Maltese word for south-east, xlokk. The town is a popular tourist destination, mainly because of the harbour, which is full of traditional Maltese fishing boats, called luzzus. They are painted in bright colours and have got an eye on the bow, which is believed to protect fishermen when they are out at sea.

I added an additional photo to the workshop, which shows some harbour activity.

the fishing and the fishermen
because I live near the sea

Hello Lars, beautiful view of the boats in Marsaxlokk as the end of the malta series. I wonder if you visited the most ancient places in Gozo and Malta, I mean Ghantija or Hal Salfieni. They are very interesting.
But aren't you already in Canada, in Vancouver? have a great meeting with Craig and a good and safe journey in USA.

Hej Lars,
Mänsklig vardaglig aktivitet är alltid intressant för mig att se, så jag föredrar WS-bilden som också har fina röda nät i förgrunden. Den här bilden är också mycket vältagen och kanske egentligen bättre komponerad, men den känns mer som många andra bilder från samma plats.
Hoppas ni får en riktigt bra resa.

Lars, good close up on the traditional luzzus. They are painted with vivid colors. All of them are equipped with buoys and protective canvas. The boats are reflecting on the port water, pleasant visual result.

Lovely colours enhanced by Mediterranean sunlight. I like the composition with the boats filling the frame with a bit of a reflection in the foreground.
I visited this place a few months ago and loved it so this photo brings back memories.

Hello Lars, I never tire of seeing these colourful boats, there are so many viewpoints just waiting for someone to capture.
The vertical presentation works really well in this colourful close shot.
The tight composition gives a great impression of the busy harbour.
The workshop shot is another excellent scene with so much colour and pattern to enjoy.

I noticed on FB you guys were already on your way to Victoria, i'm sure you've made it safely and have photographed the downtown core. Perhaps Rob has taken 1500 :) I'll get to my 20th post of Malta before posting anything else, just as you have done here. a very effective cut and crop of this busy scene. the bright blue boat in the fg is obviously my favorite. and the bg is full as well giving the idea that the marina is quite large and crowded. good one. cheers

A beautiful composition, in this closed plane on the bows of the fishing boats, its great color gives a chromatic effect, of the most beautiful, also great detail of the fishing tackle.

This is a lovely assortment of colorful boats, with nice lighting, too. I like the reflections of the boat in the foreground. Different shades of blue seem to be popular in that harbor.
