Photographer's Note
Time for one more post from Valletta, which gets me to 20 from Malta, a nice round number. That will allow me to move onto other countries for now, but i'm sure i'll get back here again soon.
This collection of colourful balconies wasn't easy to find. I came across it accidentally. I remember walking through a building, which then surprisingly led me to a rooftop of another building - it really doesn't make much sense. I'm standing on the corner of a rooftop, which when I looked to my left, this is what I saw.
In other words, I would call is extremely poor city planning :) It was a confusing maze, in this narrow spaced area of the city streets.
Think of a rat's maze, i'm standing somewhere in the middle of that chaotic mess, and I can almost reach out with my hand and touch these balconies across the so-called-street.
I don't think these homes are actually in use, but I could be wrong.
In the WS are 2 more photos to share, I hope you like them all.

Hi Craig,
The balconies are impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the structure of the balconies. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Craig,
This is not quite my idea of Home sweet home. I want to keep some distance to my neighbors and the street below. But these buildings were definitely designed to be photographed, even long before the camera was invented. But I don't quite understand how you took these photos. "..standing on a narrow rooftop strip...". What does that mean? How did you get there? You should have taken a WS of where you had been standing.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig,
Wonderful "collection" of the colorful wooden balconies, typical for Malta narrow streets, so I learn through TE pictures.
Side light enhanced the shadows and distinct the façade outlines.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Craig, the balconies in wood belong to Malta architectural patrimony. The picture highlightes well the house details. Harmonious colors, good image quality

Hello Craig,
Poor city planning provides wonderful shots! Not only in Malta.
What makes you think these homes aren't in use anymore? I think they are.
Windows are opened at various places. We see laundry drying and on a few places we can look inside.
Both pictures show wonderful balconies, one of the figureheads of La Valletta.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Craig,
High viewpoint makes this shot special. Close view of those windows looks great and direction of light is perfect for giving optimal contrast.

Hi Craig
That sounds like a pretty awkward city planning to me. But it resulted in a nice photo. I like the WS too, but this one is definitely a winner with balconies in contrasting colours, especially the blue and red in the foreground.
20 shots... I had to check your profile... indeed, you have a nice round number of photos for quite a few destinations... :-)
Best wishes

Hi Craig
I think it is the best photo I have seen of the famous balconies of La Valletta, your POV from a high place, gives a beautiful perspective of the facade of this remarkable house.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; They are all perfectly realized factors, in this beautiful image.
Well done I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Craig
The striking vivid red lends a nice colour break to a parade of beautiful balconies and very fitting to get the details in this alluring image. An excellent architectural composition well captured. Congrats

Hello Craig, Beautiful view of these balconies. And they built the towns like a maze in purpose. First, the narrow streets give shade, second, the enemy is lost. I like this composition. Where have you been? it looks like you were somewhere above the street level. I love such narrow streets.
Kind regards Malgo

Hello Craig,
Those Maltese balconies are very photogenic, but the streets of Valletta seem a bit too narrow. Do the residents have any open spaces to enjoy? Can cars drive easily around the city? I guess it's just something the locals are used to. :-)

Hi Craig
Missed this one. I like the red white and blue colours of the the balconies. Good sharpness and smart choice of a vertical format. Sheer luck you managed to find this view point by the sound of it. Tfs!

Hello Craig,
I guess that poor city planning is attributable to the narrow spaces available on a relatively tiny island. Though as Gert noted, that's not a place what most people want as a home.
A nice observation, by the way! :)

Hi Craig,
it is a clear evidence that it is worth to get lost in an old town sometime as you may find yourself in a a stunning photogenic place like this.
You were lucky to find so many balconies in one spot and of different colors too.
I like also the elevated point of view here, you are on the level of the middle balcony which makes it more eye pleasing.
Excellent capture. Great light and final effect,
M

craig
excellent use of the balconies and the repetition of shapes. I remember once my cousin decided to show me the narrowest street in her medieval city and it was 1 meter wide, someone can escape to the other side of the street by one window to another.
take care
jorge
