Dancing Near the Fountain, a photo from Monte-Carlo, North

Photographer's Note

It was only when I uploaded this photo that I found out that I had taken it in 2006 in Monaco. In reality, however, it was not shot on land, but in the atrium of the elegant cruise ship Crystal Symphony docked at the port of Monte Carlo. A gently converging spiral structure strung with LED lights is seen circling a vertical brass column. The column carries the water to the top from where it is allowed to fall as a veritable shower into a small pond. (A hidden water pump is used to circulate the water up to the top.) A close examination of the smoothly falling water, however, reveals clear plastic lines strung vertically that guides the streams of water. A gilded statue of a pair of ballet dancers on the edge of the fountain adds a touch of elegance. I was serving as a "special topics lecturer" on board the Crystal Symphony.

An excellent photo of this fountain, the falling water looks beautiful with its golden and silver tones. The sculpture of the dancer and the mirrors make a great background too.

This fountain and sculpture are both modern and antique in appearance at the same time, they have an art Deco feel but the spine looks modern in comparison. I guess the art Deco style kind of summons up images of the age of the heart liners. Beautiful rich colors, an amazing ship

Hello Bülent,
It's a very elegant fountain and it has an amazing effect from the surrounding lights. Your exposure gives full justice to the ideas of the designer. I wouldn't have imagined this to be inside a cruise ship. On the other hand I have zero experience of such ships and don't expect to ever get inside one.

Hello Bulent,

This is a most beautiful fountain, not only because of the sinuous curves and the sparkling cascade but also because of the golden surrounds and the Art Deco figures. It looks quality!
It's hard to be,I've that. This is on ship but, having been on the QM2, I know what luxury can be built into a ship.

Fabulous and lavish gold tones, all over covered with gold, Bulent. Seeing that this was taken in Monaco - I reckon how this fits well to the mindset we have a bout Monaco.

Hello Bulent,

I like the corkscrew spiral of the support wrapping around the metallic center pole. The statue at left enhances the scene. Good sharpness and the splash of red in the top left corner adds contrast to the mostly yellow tones. Tfs!
