Just a day at Burgers Zoo in Arnhem, where these collared peccary did nothing but just being lazy, on a lazy sunday afternoon. (isn't there a song with that title?)
They looked so cute, I just had to take that shot.
Here's some background information about the collared peccary................

Collared Peccary, Tayassu tajacu, is a peccary species found in North, Central and South America, living in many habitats, from dry, Sonoran desert and chaco to deep rainforest. They are commonly referred to as Javelina, although this term is also used to describe the other two species of peccary

Collared peccaries are diurnal and live in groups of 1 to 20 individuals, usually 6 to 9. They feed on fruits, roots, tubers, palm nuts, grasses, invertebrates and small vertebrates. They usually sleep at night in burrows, usually under the roots of trees.


De halsbandpekari (Pecari tajacu) is de kleinste pekarisoort en heeft een kraag van lichtere haren. De verspreidingsgebied is van de zuidgrens van de Verenigde Staten tot Argentinië. Hun voedsel zijn vooral knollen, vruchten en bessen. Ze worden ongeveer 70 centimeter tot 1 meter lang en wegen ongeveer 25 kilogram. Ze leven in groepen van ongeveer 15 dieren.
