Photographer's Note

Every year in mid-december the Charles-Dickens-Festival takes place in Deventer. You can see characters from his novels in the streets, performing life as it may have been about 180 years ago. There are children begging, Ebenezer Scrooge cursing, sheperds with their sheep and donkeys, and even Queen Victoria can be watched having her tea behind a window (see workshop). The streets are nicely decorated with mistletoes and other christmas decorations, the shops are open even on sunday, and lots of touring cars bring loads of people to watch and enjoy.
