Photographer's Note

Driving in the port of Rotterdam I was struck by these yellow upright contraptions.
My first thought was: Ballet dancers!
Because of the presence of many tankers in this port, I assume that it is used for unloading crude oil.

Dag Gerard,
De havens zijn een onuitputtelijke bron voor mooie foto’s. Al die kranen, containers, pijpleidingen etc geven een machtig lijnenspel. Je foto laat dit ook prachtig zien.

Hoewel ik er ook wel een flink aantal van dit soort foto’s in mijn archief heb, vallen ze meestal af als ik weer een keuze maak voor een nieuwe TE-upload.
Deze foto is de enige die ik tot dusver heb gebruikt. Hoewel het strikt genomen tegen de regels is heb ik hier wel de kleuren een beetje opgeleukt.

This is some strange equipment. Ballet dancers are not really what comes into my mind, but I could well imagine them to be some kind of public art. These yellow things stand out strongly against the grayish surroundings.

Dag Gerard,

Rotterdam is een wereld haven en heeft dan ook de moderste snufjes om zeer snel ruwe olie te lossen.
U zou het een ballet kunnen noemen.
Het is echt mooi hoe u ons dit deel van de haven laat zien.
Wat een industrie ook in de achtergrond.
Heel mooi foto werk, bedankt.

The suites of cranes has a graphical effet. The point of view is showing the details of the special cranes. The gray sky does not hurt the output of the colors. Have a nice day.

Dag Gerard,
Op cursus hebben we geleerd dat horizontale en verticale lijnen een statisch beeld geven. Ik vind deze foto daarentegen dynamisch door de overweldigende hoeveelheid techniek die valt waar te nemen. Het schip op de achtergrond doet het in de compositie erg goed. Er straalt veel kracht uit. Als je deze foto in RAW hebt geschoten zou je dat kunnen benadrukken door hem iets lichter/contrast-rijker te maken???

welcome to TE! Industrial seetings make incredible playgrounds for photographers and this looks to be a very rich one. If you live nearby, you'll have the opportunity to make several visits there and look for compositions with big elements or details, shoot in favourable light or study different formats and exposures. I like your idea of the cranes being a ballet group, they surely stand out in an environment that's mostly grey and composed by many smaller and tiny pieces. Congratulations and thank you!

welcome to TE, lots of good people on this website!

as a lover of architecture and anything mechanical, this one attracts my attention.

these types of subjects may not be on everyone's favorite list, but they can still be attention grabbers.

this has a real Industrial feel to it, and whats wrong with that! :) We could see another 500 posts on TE, and none will look like this one.

lots going on here, not the prettiest of Ballet dancers, but I like it, good for you to spot it

Hallo Gerard,
Alle industrieën in de Rotterdamse haven bieden prachtige fotomogelijkheden. De lange gele armen vormen een prachtig geheel en worden mooi omlijst door allerlei andere, voornamelijk blauwe constructies vol masten, antennes, pijpleidingen en trappen. Mooi licht ook.
