This is the 6th industrial shot. The superstructures of 2 coupled Rhine-boats are displayed here. The place is the last stretch of the Rotte-river in Rotterdam, Rotterdam obviously means “dam in the Rotte”) before it's lead to the Leuvehaven (Leuven docks) via a concrete sinker under the Blaak, one of R'dam’s major thoroughfares. These ships serve as the home for a restaurant. I was attracted by the colours & forms of this utilitarian looking ensemble. The shadow play on the embankment and the boats is caused by trees and by the reflection of the water.

The green container with the yellow lid, spoiling the composition a bit, is the infamous GFT -container . It was introduced nation-wide to facilitate the separate recycling of vegetable & garden (GFT)waste into compost. Every household was supplied with one. In summer they’re very smelly. Alas the recycling capacity wasn’t scaled up fast enough and the big volume market for compost never materialised, so a number of major cities in Holland halted the separated collection of garbage, or kept on collecting it separately because the technology was available and heavily invested in, but after that mixed it in with the other garbage. The containers are a symbol of a well meant but partly failed environmental policy. Some containers are still in use though.

PS-E2 tech: skewed, levels & contrast adjusted, saturation &hues (master, yellows, blues and greens) adjusted, sharpened, frame added and saved for the web
