Photographer's Note
Pupating 2 / 10 Years TE
In nature some insects pupate .... and during construction most buildings do too. After a building has reached its maximum height, the construction is often covered in safety netting and during the closing stages of the building process this netting is removed in stages.
Like in the previous post, netting hanging from the new glass roof (with its photovoltaic elements) of the train shed of the new Rotterdam Central Station is displayed here. In this post I zoomed out and one of the massive Y shaped pillars of the new shed and the catenary wires can be seen. Also can be seen that some of the netting has already been removed - the pupating has progressed.
I shot this one through a train window, hence the gritty charachter of some elements/textures of the picture.
The new station will be opened in mid 2013 and the construction is a complex process of transformation of the old station which remains in operation during it. It involves phased demolition of the old station and creating temporary and new facilities. This picture was shot from one of the platforms.
Information about the new station is here.
And ofcourse: Happy Birthday TE ! 10 Years.....!

Les yeux du photographe ont bien fait leur travail! :o)
Jeu sublime entre les couleurs et la profondeur de l'image. Et magnifiquement cadré, comme d'habitude...

Hi Bert
We can better "read" this one than the previous one! I like the sharp red areas against the out of focus grey places. I don't understand why the blue building is sharp and not the grey one.
warm regards

Good Morning Bert,
I think this may be even stronger than your previous shot for, besides the wonderful rich textures, patterns and colours, we have a great sense of depth, too.
Excellent!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Dag Bert,
Mooi foto werk Bert. Bedankt.

Hello Bert,
Love this! The vibrant red dominates but the other colours play their part. An array of graphic shapes that come together to give a fabulous abstract composition. The clarity is superb.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Bert,
This is a very interesting post about how a new station is built. And you made a very graphic, colourful photo out of a particular stage.
It's amazing how "Abstract Art" can be found anywhere in everyday life ! And when you know what it is, it isn't abstract at all ! But your shot made it so, because there is no way we could have guessed what it was without your explanation.
The red netting gives an incredible effect, and the shapes are very elegant.
Thanks for sharing into the anniversary theme with this post about a future train station, which means more travel, communication, adventure and photographs...
Best regards.
Marie-Louise.

Hello Bert,
Only after reading the note understood what we see here.
Always, RR stations draw attention and intriguing photography sessions.
The red canopies under outside light are main asset to this composition, blue and grey parts in fine contrast.
Good afternoon,
Ike
