Photographer's Note
Shown here is another example of temporary /auxiliary architecture and urban redevelopment. It’s the roundabout section of the ‘Luchtsingel’, a playful circuit of wooden elevated walkways that crosses major roads and a railroad to offer the pedestrian new ways to discover the city and is a connection between emerging cultural hotspots in Rotterdam Central & Noord too.
It enables pedestrians to avoid the anonymous and sometime unsafe existing urban ground level with its (sometimes vacant) office buildings. Design/realisation: by a coalition of architecture bureau ZUS, and the municipality of Rotterdam. Funding: the municipality of Rotterdam and crowd sourcing / crowd funding - for 25 € people could buy planks on which the name of the buyer is printed (as can be seen in this capture).
Together with the Schieblock (the place where the Luchtsingel starts, a redeveloped vacant office slab - one of the cultural hot spots I mentioned earlier) it counteracts the detrimental effects that the combination of modernist urban planning (with its rigorous segregation of work, living and commercial functions) and chronic high levels of vacancy of office buildings have on the livability and vitality of the city centre.
A larger view is here.

Hallo Bert, this picture presents a remarkable urban development project. The municipality, anonymous, a university participated in its funding. This wooden elevated walkway protects the pedestrians and creates beautiful viewpoints. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Hello Bert,
It's interesting to find a walkway like this high above the central parts of a big city. Apart from being interesting, this photo is also very well composed with the child perfectly placed in the lower part, running towards the curve along the bright yellow floor. It's another graphically fine photo with an attractive simplicity. By the way, the man watching the view counterbalances the child well.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Bert,
You are my neighbour, today!
Rotterdam seems like a very versatile city. To be honest, I have only ever seen the oil refineries and the docks but I am obviously missing a great deal!
You have chosen an excellent spot to accentuate the yellow, curving path, which takes us to a strong vanishing point.
The speeding youngster was a great addition. He benefits from the vibrancy of the colour and persuades us to move quickly around the bend! On the other hand, the second figure challenges to slow down and enjoy the view.
I enjoyed this brief tour of Rotterdam!
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

I have no idea where this is, but you can be sure I am going to find it next time I am in Rotterdam Noord. Or maybe it isn't there now as this was 2014.
Great timing to have the girl run into the frame and brilliant colours.

Be honest, Bert:
did you pay or reward the little chap for running around so photogenically?
Seems that urban life slowly becomes worth living instead of leaving the cities and building single-family houses!
Have a nice weekend, we're facing carnival to rage all around us!

Hallo Bert,
Een mooie foto van deze houten constructie. Het geel is uiteraard heel aantrekkelijk en de bocht geeft dynamiek aan de foto net als de rennende jongen in de voorgrond.

Hi Bert
what do the panels say on the right? Each one is different.
a great example of youth and older age and the contrasts, one standing, one running :) Very cool visual effect, it works well. too bad the buildings are cut off at the top, but you had to be quick to capture the child running :)
cheers

Hallo Bert,
mooi beetje surrealistisch beeld van dit rennende jongentje in de gele houten bocht en de man die van het uitzicht geniet.

Hello Bertolucci, Nice place in Rotterdam. Interesting this yellow colour. Pity for the part of the foot of a boy :). Closer look reveals the names on the planks. Very interesting place.
Kind regards MAlgo

Dag Bert,
In feite een goede financiering op deze wijze.
En zo te zien waren er veel gegadigden, wanneer we al de nemen op de planken kunnen zien.
Goed dat u de jonge loper er bijnam, zelf mooi contrast.
Goed foto werk Bert, bedankt.
Groeten uit een stormachtig Vlaanderen,
John
