The vicinity of the lighthouse is covered with cacti and withered bushes.

The old stone California lighthouse stands as a silent watchman in the area known as "Hudishibana," near the island's northwestern tip. It beckons visitors to the most spectacular views of the island.

The lighthouse was named after the S.S. California - which sunk previous to its construction in 1910. Perched on a high seaside elevation, the lighthouse has become one of Aruba's scenic trademarks and offers a picture perfect view of the island's western coastline of beaches and coral shorelines.

They should have put a light bulb on top of the cactus and not spent so much to build the lighthouse! But I must confess, it looks elegant.

Hi Zbigniew,

When I saw that this photo is from the Netherlands I thought "Cacti in Netherlands? Surely not!" And then I thought - it must be Netherlands overseas territory. This must be the dry side of Aruba. The cactus nicely mirrors the shape of the lighthouse. Great depth of field.

Hello Zbigniew,
This is a nice play of perspective, making the very tall lighthouse look short compared to the cactus in the foreground. From the thumbnail I guessed that this must be Aruba. We wouldn't find a lighthouse in the southeast US. :-) Take care!
