Photographer's Note

As a diversion from the Farm & Farmland theme I will alternate with images from this new theme - Forollhogna National Park in central Norway. The park was established December 21 2001, with a total conservation area of 1514 km2.

The image shows Mt Forollhogna in the background, the summit that gave the name to the park. Here we are approaching basecamp that is located some 20 km into the national park. As a bonus I include a workshop image showing what this scenery looked like yesterday...

Forollhogna National Park is located in the counties of Sør-Trøndelag and Hedmark, and the park includes extensive plant life and is an important range for wild reindeer.

The scenery of Forollhogna consists of large alpine areas, with gentle slopes rising from the valleys below - an area often referred to as "the gentle mountains". Here are thriving villages and a lush cultural landscape formed by the region's farming traditions. For centuries the summer farms have been in use during the season, and many still are.

This is the setting of Forollhogna National Park, Norway's 19th park to be so designated.
