Photographer's Note

Several summer farms are in operation in Forollhogna National Park during the summer months, and the produce is available for purchase on the premises.

The juicy mountain grass adds a special flavour to the milk when the cows spend the summer in the mountains. In particular you can taste this in butter that is made on the summer farm, which I use every opportunity to buy when I’m up there!

The old buildings on the summer farm stand well in the dry mountain climate, and some of them date back as far as to the 1700s. When you go there it is a great opportunity to experience this old way of farming, even if I doubt they make any profit on the summer farms today!

All together I have counted around 6-8 operational summer farms in the NP, all open to the public and you may even spend the night in a spare bed if you’re prepared for this simple way of life…
