Photographer's Note

Araucaria Heterophylla defines the skyline of Praia da Amora (translation is Blackberry Beach, but most tourists think it means Love Beach), at Ponta Garça, 9 km east from the islet.

Except for the arid coasts (Sahara, etc), there is no other subtropical beach where so few people swimmed in the mid of Autumn (mid November in the northen Hemisphere) with water still above 20°C.

Ironically this is the closest beach to the main location for Ilha dos Amores (1), the TV program with the highest rates Monday to Saturday in the portuguese television, from March 26, 2007 until today. (2)

1- Ilha do Amor means Island of Love. But there is no two words translation in english for "Ilha dos Amores", as coined first in the "Lusíadas" odyssey, by the defining personality of the skyline of portuguese poetry, Luíz Vaz de Camões.

In prime time, TVI’s share of 36.8% represents a lead of 7.8pp over its nearest competitor. In the main commercial targets such as Housewives, TVI improved its share over the previous month and reinforced its leadership, having also improved its results in the Individuals ABC1 aged 25/54 target, following the outstanding performance of its most recent prime time soap opera “Ilha dos Amores”.
TVI’s newest prime time fiction program, soap opera “Ilha dos Amores”, has grabbed a dominant lead in its timeslot, and its first thirty episodes (broadcasted throughout March and April) have reached an average audience share of 44.3%, corresponding to an average 1.5 million viewers...
