Photographer's Note
The probabilities are high that this will be the last Christmas of the "global village".
But which milestone marks its begin, the end of the separation of Old and New World? 1419, 1431 or 1432?
The Madeira Islands were accidentally found by Prince Henry's seaman Joao Goncalves Zarco in 1419.
In 1431, Prince Henry gave his able seaman and knight Gonçalo Velho Cabral unprecedented orders: "to sail towards the setting sun until he came to an island."
Cabral did find the only series of volcanic rocks protruding out from under the water in the entire Atlantic, which he named "formigas" or ants.
He was just 25 miles from these mountains rising up to 900 meters.
Yet he missed them because it was a day of poor visibility.
One year later Cabral returned and this time he didn't miss the promised land.

Hello,
Very nice landscape. the DOF & POV are great. I like colours too. Sharpness is good as well.I like also this picture curved shape (geometry from lens?).

Beautiful image, Ilena
I hadn't realised the Azores were so lush and green. The sharp contours of the hills surrounding the deep blue water make for a very attractive and effective composition. A bit reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings. The curve caused by the wide angle lens adds a surreal quality.
Good work

Wonderfull landscape with the combination of mountain, sea and sky. You have three of the four element here but since your note speak of the volcanic nature ofthe islands, let's make it four !
All the best,
Emmanuel

Love the texture and details of the mountains on the right side and how the light dapples over the green vegatation, you can feel the volcanic rocks scraping through the trees and brush. It's wide angle and telephot all in one. Very cool.

Hello Ilena,
Splendid capture in a low angle approach and perspective enquadrement view of the Fire Lagoon at S.Miguel. When I stayed here the weather was very hazzy. One of the best pictures that I have seen from this lovely lagoon. Good colors, light and fine sharpness with a beautiful sky and the green foreground. Congratulations and Thanks for Your posts about S.Miguel island. I dedicate my recent post at Ponta do Escalvado to you and other TE Member.
All the best to you and thanks also for your guideline notes.

Hi Ilena
Very stunning photo, what amazing place. It's because of this website I see photos of places, which would be very hard to even imagine exist. This is one of those places, it's just so beautiful. I thank you for sharing this.
The colours and everything in your photo is beautiful as well, you are a skilled photographer. Well done.
Andrew
