Photographer's Note
World's only tea plantation facing the ocean.
World's lowest elevation tea plantation.
World's only non-asian subtropical tea plantation.
Sao Miguel Island - north coast: A tea plantation unlike any other in the world....
At elevation of 150 m above sea level, we are as high and just 3 km west from the only tea plantation in the world almost at sea level.
Which happens to be also the only tea plantation in the subtropics which is not located in Asia.
Which happens to be also the only tea plantation in the world facing the ocean.
No wonder, the Sao Miguel north coast (Ribeira Grande) has a unique climate in the world: for the same elevation, average relative humidity is 15 pct higher than in the south coast, only 10 km to the south (Vila Franca do Campo).
And temperatures are also extremely mild:
- lowest temperature recorded since 1970: 3°C (south coast at same elevation: 5°C);
- highest temperature recorded since 1970: 29°C (south coast at same elevation: 30.5°C).

Hi Ilena
Wonderful greens in this photo with subtle light on them. I think if you had cropped the sky down to just above the hill on the left it would be a stronger image.
Well done.

Hello Ilena,
great landscape. I love the composition, dramatic clouds and soft light on the patched fielda.
Interesting note.
Well done.

Nice saturation in the greens. The backlighting makes for some good textures. A feeling of hope with the breaking light through the clouds. I think it's a good place to retire and get away from it all. Don't tell anyone. Looks like plenty of room for a few appreciative folks. Keep sending those photos from one of the most enjoyed areas I've ever been.

Belos verdes aveludados. Para acompanhar esta foto sugiro um chá de São Miguel (actualmente o Gorreana encontra-se facilmente em Portugal continental).
