Cyatheas and Araucarias, the symbols of the Old World.
Cyathea intermedia (photo), like almost all the araucaria species, is native to an area of just a few dozen km2, consisting of the (windward) southeastern corner of New Caledonia and the neighbouring Isle of Pines.

It is, together with Norfolk island's Cyathea brownii and Raoul Island's Cyathea kermadecensis, one of the three tallest fern-trees in the world.
