Also one of two beaches in Portugal surrounded by semi arid scenery. Both of them boast the highest yearly average water temperature, what together with the quality and color of the water, evoking a coral reef, and finally the quality of the air and of the sand, are more than enough reasons to put it on the top three beaches of Portugal.

In fact the average water temperature of 18.5 in the coldest month is just 1C below Lord Howe Island, the southernmost coral reef in the world. On the other hand Lord Howe Island comes second only to these two beaches in the mildest beach in the world ranking.
And the place that really signals the begin of the incredible voyage of a portuguese from Cuba, Alentejo, referred by History books as the "genovese" Christopher Columbus.
