Seagull, a photo from Leiria, North

Photographer's Note

This is one of the towers of Peniche Fortress with a seagull on top of it.This building is a military complex of the XVII century. With the dictatorship of the Estado Novo in Portugal, it has been transformed into a prision in which many Portuguese had been kept arrested just because they were fighting for freedom. In the period between 1934 and 1974,it suffered some architectonical modifications with the main ideia of transform it into a high security prison. The Revolution of the Cravos, the 25 of April of 1974, as ended with this use.
Now Peniche Fortress is a beautiful place to visit.Inside there is a museum about the Portuguese men and women how fight against the dictatorship.

Lovely composition! I love how the foreground is so sharp and the sky so soft, did you do that in postprocessing?

Anyway, great capture, the blue sky really works with the grey foreground and the seagull adds that extra touch.

Looks like the Seagull has forgotten that dictatorship is long gone!! Beautiful picture! Almost perfect except for the little bits of noise around the edges of the fortress in places. I like the composition very much, and the colours are very good. Nicely spotted!

Hi Marco, nice shot. What a nice subject and dramatic sky! A little bit of what I believe is oversharpening noise is evident on edges and the fortress is slightly underexposed. I tried a workshop to see if I can help. :)

It's a stunning photo! I like the contrast of the sky and the objects at foreground. The bird makes the photo complete! Well framed too.

Dear Marco, when seeing this picture I had Nina's workshop in mind. The photo is wonderful except for the neglection of the rule of thirds. Did you blur the background sky later ? Thanks for sharing.

We have those watchtowers all over Luxembourg upon the remnants of the old fortifications. We call them Spanish towers, I don't know why, maybe they were the first ones to build them. We don't have any seagulls on them though.

A very fine and dramatic sky you got here Marco as background for this (somehow wellknown to me ;-) corner tower. I seen it on TE before - and can understand why so many photographers like to get it on there photos - you got it in a good angle as well - fine job indeed - thanks for sharing.

Tight framing makes it possible to appreciate the texture of the stone. The sky in background accentuates the description of the subject. Well done Marco.

Through your clear and eye pleasnt photos you present your beautyful country on the best way. You have the natural gift...the good eye and that because you choose the best from the image.
This is nice photo. You took only the tower, good composition and contrasts of textures of the walls and soft sky gives the perfect finall result.
