Photographer's Note
The wonderful town of Lisboa is gloriously draped over seven hills.
Displayed here is the Elevador da Glória, it's one of the three old funiculars in service, letting the public mount the steepest ones. The Glória connects the Restauradores Square to the S. Pedro de Alcântara belvedere in the Bairro Alto (literally: high quarter) quarter. It’s 265 metres long and the average incline is 18%. The elevadores are one of the icons of Lisboa and are operated by Carris, the company which operates the busses and trams (electrico’s) in Lisboa.
As shown here the steepness of the hill doesn’t keep people from climbing them themselves.
PCS tech: corrected for perspective & lens (barrel) distortion, saturation, contrast and levels adjusted, USM-ed , added a frame and saved for the web.

Intriguing perspective: the windows of houses on the right seem the prosecution of those one of the tram so we have continuity of lines. The yellow color enhances the composition standing out from the grey all around (also the people's dresses seem to adapt theirself to the "habitat").
What a saudade!

Glorious angle...
The yellow against all the greyness is great.
The framing is alos great letting the steepness of the street guide the eye to the end of the road.
Did you get the aerial of Aqueduto das Aguas Livres?

An amazing angle, and an amazing incline! Very impressive, the lines of windows join the slope with an incredible angle. The moment is well chosen, it's good to have the subjects on top, opposed to the slope. The large portion of yellow contributes to the excellent composition, being the almost only colour, and having its windows aligned with those of the houses. Nice also to have some characters at the very bottom of the slope, it adds even more depth. Very well composed, with an excellent POV, a very nice catch Bert! Thanks for sharing! BTW Lausanne is also draped over seven hills, not so gloriously though...

Hi Bert. Outstanding feeling of perspective! Just like Carlos writes: the alignment of the windows of the houses and the windows of the funicular train is very present and attractive. The people down in the distance help to give us a feeling of depth. Very good catch.

You've chosen a terrific pov here Bert and the shot has excellent depth, great lines and balance and exciting colour contrast. A very interesting shot.

Hi Bert, really great depth in this picture. I think it's a very nice composition this way, with the people on the left, and part of the 'Carris' carriage. I remeber this one, although they were not painted like this. Very nice one, I guess you had fun ;-)

Hi Bert,
very nice and original picture. I like the funicular presence.
One regret, the girl's foot is cut.
Maybe if we can see the end of the road it will be still better ! But I like, well done !

Hi Bert,
It looks like the tram is going to lift of and fly away. Just over the people who stands in the way. Well captured this interesting scene.

Hi Bert. A very compelling play with perspective in this one, with an extremely good rendering of the steep hillside that the funicular is climbing. Excellent to have the people included in the frame, and very good how the yellow car is reaching into the scene from the right. Great shot, well done.

Hi,
Mooie foto.

John.

A very well composed frame that I see here captured in Lisbon. The prespective and angle of view is excelent. There are continuing lines in diagonal, what makes of this capture also a great artwork.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful things of my country.
Congratulations!!!

Very creative shot of the tram Bert. I like its position just before diving downwards. I think this one I even have a shot of myself, but then in the bottom of the hill.
Very good to have the peole in there. Good capture..

Very well seen, excellent POV and composition, and I like the colors too. A real contrast between the drab wall and the yellow train.

This is great interaction between the people and the tram. The way you have the tram in the image makes it act like a barrier moving up the road and as it goes the people can follow. The perspective down and along the lines of windows offers a nice graphical feel. And with all the graphical appeal it still has a very nice and human and daily life feel. Nicely captured.

Une image iquietante et tres joliment prise de part son cadrage qui nous offre un effet de grandeur et de profondeur.
J'aime bien le coté naturel de dessaturation qui met bien en valeur le Train.
Bravo Bert

Strong angles of street, houses and tram in this one Bert. The line of people adds a lot to it and the absolute top is the anxious look of the father peering over the shoulder. How will he manage to save his family?

Hi man, you're back ? It's been a long time.
So, what about this picture ? A lot have been said: great composition mixing both verticals and diagonals, great color range with people somewhere between the dominant grey and the yellow. AOV emphasizes perspective and inclinaison of this street I know (was there in 2000 for the Universal Exposition).
Really good, good job again...

Very nice and strong perspective Bert, excellent composition and good timing with the funicular, great cropping. The building in the back accentuate the slope effect, very well seen.

A superb angle you've got here, Bert.
I like the yellow of the transport-service against the monotone colours of the rest in this picture. Very well seen, very well done !

A very good typical daily life scene of the Glória funicular. A place and scene I know quite well! Very nice framing with a strong dynamic feeling, good colors and clarity.
