Photographer's Note
First of all I passed today the 70000 points so to celebrate I invite you for a lunch... ha ha
Just kidding, in the note to my previous photo, I mentioned Portuguese drinks so I thought I will talk here about my experience of the Portuguese cuisine.
As mentioned before, during my stay in Lisbon, I had the pleasure to meet one of my favourite TrekEarth photographers, Aires dos Santos. He invited us for a dinner to a restaurant known only to local connoisseurs, serving some traditional Portuguese meals. The dinner started with two appetizers. The first one is presented in the main upload while the second one I will attach as a workshop. I rarely share the photos of food, but that was one of the most memorable meals I had in my life. I am a little worried that I appeared rude because I didn’t touch the appetizers at all. Luckily my wife, always eager to try something new, something local, she tried everything saving us the embarrassment. The main meal consisted of a large fish platter with a great selection of various fish coming in many shapes and colors. I did try some of the main meal but even that was slightly too textured for my taste. At certain point there was a beggar passing by and she asked whether we finished our meal already. Since we didn’t eat anymore, I suggested we should share the meal with her. Again, not sure whether this came out as rude. I did appreciate the great gesture, but I usually prefer to stick to simple unsophisticated meals.

Pozdrav.
Lep pogled, interesantan tekjst ...
Ja volim dajedem sije i noge od pilica, bas su ukusni, kod nas se najvise koriste za kuvanje supe.
Lepa porcija, dobro pokazana sa lepim bojama i kontrastom.
Dobar rad, lepa fotografija.
Lepo secanje.
Zelim vam lepo popodne, sve najbolje u novoj nedelji koja je pocela.

You were right Mariusz, I do not have such picture on my gallery, nor ever take such photos anywhere...
It would be too much for my stomach...
Clear shot, unusual in your gallery as well.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Mariusz,
When it comes to learning about the world, by way of photographs, this certainly fits the bill.
The photograph demonstrates excellent clarity, revealing the contents of the plate, without doubt. It confirms to me that it would be a meal that I would have to decline!
The fowl feet look like horrific hands ... not the tasty sort of meal I would look forward to!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Mariusz,
I'm really afraid that in most cultures it is quite rude or not done to refuse food or drinks offered. Especially when you're already sitting at the table.
If you expect something like that in advance, you can give an intestinal problem as the reason.
I remember it seemed impossible to refuse the butter tea offered by monks in Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh and I had a hard time to drink the glass completely. When several monasteries were visited on the same day, the problem repeated itself.
Now I don't remember exactly in which country a different experience was, but I've somewhere secretly emptied a few glasses into a flower pot (luckily it wasn't alcohol).
In Spain I've been invited to eat the tapa pig ear and leg but that was something that also my grandparents ate and I liked it.
In the Philippines, someone on the street offered me a boiled egg with a chick inside. He had already bitten into another egg. Apart from the view, the hygienic conditions were below par and I refused.
The two dishes you show here are something I've never seen on a table in Portugal.
What's there to eat about those chicken legs? I've seen chicken legs at the market in Cambodia (but not in a restaurant either).
In the photo in the WS it looks like a snail crawled out of its house...
So I actually come to the question if you've seen Aires eat this. Who knows it was a test.
Maybe it was better to eat the typical Portuguese sardines.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Mariusz
An excellent shot of 'to me at least, a completely unappetising meal. I don't think I could have eaten it.
And congratulations on your points.

I wouldn't be able to eat this, most of brazilians love these feets and necks of chicken, but not me. for other side brazilians never would touch the snails.
fortunately my portuguese relatives never gave me such plates to eat. when I was 6 years old I tasted the snails after my cousin had purchased, but I don't remember more the taste. when I don't like some food my mother prepares she says: you ate even snails once and now are refusing my meal... hahaha
take care

Ciao Mariusz, probably these dishes turned out to be unusual for a Nordic like you, but the crow's feet are used a lot to make broth, and I remember that my father was very greedy for them, even I ate them often. While the necks are not eaten like this, but the skin is used to make a tube and fill it with minced meat and spices and roasted, it is a highly sought after dish. Sea snails are also excellent, even if the extraction process from the shell is very annoying. Thanks for this culinary post, I really enjoyed it. Have a nice evening! Luciano

HI Mariusz
I'm afraid that I would have joined you in avoiding the appetizer in the main photo but I would have tucked into the snails.
2 good food photos.
cheers

Hi Mariusz
Thanks for sticking with the site. Not my favourite parts of a chicken to eat but superbly photographed. Good sharpness, a nice low shooting angle and a wonderful shallow dof. Tfs!

Hello Mariusz,
The view of these appetizers makes my stomach a bit queasy, but they also remind me of a meal I once went to. There was a company dinner, back when I used to work for an Asian exporting company, and they decided on a very authentic restaurant in Chinatown. A giant plate of chicken feet were placed on the table, along with many other dishes that I just couldn't bring myself to eat. I had a lot of rice, though!

Hello Mariusz,
Great photo of the food, but I will stop there. I usually proclaim food photos to be yummy if they look half decent. I am afraid I cannot tell a white lie here, it looks quite repulsive. I don't blame you for not eating it.
Regards,
MT
