Photographer's Note
If you go to Lisbon please don't mis a visit to Sintra. Sintra is a city about 30 km from Lisbon build on the hills. The palaces, egetation and culture are so many and o diferent that one day visiting is not enough.
This is Monserrate, one of the most beutiful palaces at Sintra/ The gardens are also incredible with vegetation from all over the world.
The designer of this little romantic palace was James Knowles Jr. and it was built in 1858 on the initiative of Francis Cook, Viscount Monserrate, being one of the most interesting examples of Sintra Romanticism. A work in the Romantic-Orientalist spirit, with its great circular tower, bulbous cupolas and exotic decoration, the building recalls in particular the famous Brighton Pavilion of Nash, and English Romantic architecture.
However, as José Augusto França says, "Monserrate has a somewhat different scenographic sense, based on a greater wealth of archaeological details", constituted by its inspirational roots which - via English sources - are grafted on to the Moghul architecture. A unique case of Romanticism in Portugal.

Hi Kikks, I visited Monserrate Gardens for twice. Really a nice and romantic place to have a stroll through the sub-tropical species of the garden. I have a same photo, from more or les the same vantage point. Yours is beautiful and more updated. Best regards, Tolga

Kik,
The architecture is great here and you have presented from a fine POV. The low POV gives the shot a nice upward view placing the structure against the deep blue sky. The lighting and colors are fine and the photo has excellent sharpness.

Hallo Kik,

Hello Kik.
A well composed shot, taken from a well-chosen pov.
Very well balanced picture, where full and empty spaces occupe each one an half of shot.
Best regards.
Bobo.

Good evening Kik,
The architecture of this palate is almost Eastern. The colors are superb. I particularly like the low-angle shot which gives a certain nobility to the building. The photograph is luminous and of excellent quality. Cheer.
Have a good evening

Greetings Kiks,
Love this shot - having lived in Brighton for 5 years, I can appreciate the similarities and the differences. Clearly there is more use of colour here, which may reflect a mediterranean expectation for sun to show off the colours.
A beautiful shot - with the dark green tree on the lift providing a wonderful frame for your work - and the colour management on the building and sky behind it is excellent.
A family story about Sintra: when I was about 10 years old, we lived in Oerias, on the outskirts of Lisbon for a year. When the obligatory trip to Sintra finally came up, my mum "knew" of this wonderful shortcut. Four hours later (during which time we may well have crossed in to Spain) we finally completed the 30 km journey. "Shortcut to Sintra" is now family shorthand for something that takes a little bit longer than originally expected or for an idea that sounded really good at the time, but ...
regards, thanks, Iain
