Photographer's Note

The Volkswagen Beetle, officially called the Volkswagen Type 1 (or informally the Volkswagen Bug), is an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003. With over 21 million manufactured in an air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single design platform, worldwide.

Although designed in the 1930s, the Beetle was only produced in significant numbers from 1945 on when the model was internally designated the Volkswagen Type 1, and marketed simply as the "Volkswagen". Later models were designated VW 1200, 1300, 1500, 1302 or 1303, the former three indicating engine displacement and the latter two being derived from the type number and not indicative of engine capacity. The model became widely known in its home country as the Käfer (German for "beetle") and was later marketed as such in Germany, and as the Volkswagen Beetle in other countries.

Lots of car posts lately! I like how you've taken this, cutting off part of the car to turn it into a splash of red atop the frame. Nice diagonal here, splitting two patterns of cobblestones from Lisbon's streets. I wasn't sure, though, why you called this a Frog in Lisbon, until I looked it up! I guess frog is the term in Romania? As well as several other countries... in fact this car seems to have many animal nicknames! Something I did not know. Thanks!

what i like about this one is the stark contrast from the rouch cobblestones and the smooth surfaced car.

Hi Daniel,

Cool! Another wonderful, isolated section of a classic automobile. The exercise in contrast is simply superb here, the bold red color jumps off of the screen against the natural stonework of the streets. Smartly arranged to have a diagonal cut from the curbing across the slim, vertical composition. Creative once again, good eye to spot these types of every day cross-sections of our surroundings. Bravo!

A Masterpiece of composition Daniel!Most of us would just passed by this old VW"Käfer" and go further.But you created someting special out of it.I like your perspective,tight vertical frame and of course strong color contrast between th ered car and the cobbelstones(btw was a great idea to make of them a significant part of your image).

With this great composition you have definitely a winner here.
The tight crop and the stark contrast between the cobbled street and the shiny metal of the car works really well here and the diagonal line helps it a lot. Not to say that the beetle was (still is) a great and funny car.
The only thing I could not figure out was where the frog in your title came in?

Salut Daniel,
La composition est bien pensée et très intéressante avec un beau pavé deux tons et la partie de voiture tout en haut. Les Volkswagen avait disparues chez nous pendant quelques années mais elles sont revenues. Beau format vertical et beau contraste de couleurs.
