Santa Marta Lighthouse, a photo from Lisboa, South

Photographer's Note

This lighthouse is the third one along the Portuguese Coast going north from Lisbon. This coast is a bit tricky for ships of all dimensions. In 50 kms there are 6 lighthouses at this area. In the recent past there were many wrecks along this coast. The sweet mood of the Sea is misleading because this place is located in a very sheltered bay ...

This looks like a lovely area. One i wich to visit sometime. It is a great picture. My only wish is that the uppwr branch was not in it because it tends to distract me a bit from the beautifull scenarie. But over all it is a great photo.

Very nice shot, Rui. Composition works well, with the shoreline going diagonally through the frame, and the lighthouse and the orange building filling about 2/3 of the image. I agree with Zandra that taking the picture from a slightly lower position - resulting in less distraction from the upper branch of the tree - would even improve this. Well seen anyway!

Nice photograph. Contrary to other critiques, I do like the top branch. It gives a sense of depth that would be missing without that element.

On the other hand, I find the lower branch a major distraction. You might try cropping it out.

Interesting picture.
I have an interesting suggestion. If the focus had been on the lower branch and the entire lighthouse + House were to be a little blurred. How would that look ?
(Am new with critique, maybe would sound a lil stupid sometimes.. bear if it is so !!)

Hi again Rui,
I thought I'd go right back to the beginning of when you started posting pics and, to my eye, this image really stood out.
The composition, the colours, the point of view, and the use of light are outstanding. Seeing images like this makes me realise how much I still have to learn.

This is wonderful: Soft lighting on exotic building.
The off-camera flash to illuminate the lower leaves adds colourful framing.
Quite relaxing mood.
