Photographer's Note

A Spring scene of North Alentejo, featuring the inevitable cork oaks.

This is my first true HDR. I call it true because I merged two different shots to make this image instead of playing around with duplicated layers of the same shot. I posted the original shots as WS's: light/oe and dark/ue.

Following my tendency to avoid much automatic tools, that steal much of the pleasure of simulating a "hand made job", I did this by putting both the shots in different merged layers and work on the transparency of the top layer. All was done in Gimp (probably the most complete and popular open free and source imaging software) and it is relatively easy to do once you become familiar with the mask/painting tools and techniques.
