Photographer's Note

After having shown the outside and the inside of the new basilica, here you have now a closer view of the old basilica, which only appeared in the distance in the WS's of those posts (1, 2).

The church was initially designed by the Dutch architect Gerard Van Kriechen and then finalised and executed by the Portuguese architect João Antunes. Its construction begun in 1928 and ended in 1953.

You can find more detailed (or should I say just lengthier? :-) notes on my first post of the place, which is the most important worship place for Roman Catholics in Portugal and it is also much revered world wide by Virgin Mary worshippers.
