Rupea Citadel

This photo was taken inside Rupea Citadel (Cetatea Rupea), while a thunderstorm was approaching rapidly. The citadel sits on top of a 120 metre high basalt cliff near the town of Rupea. It was first mentioned in 1324, but the site had already been inhabited much longer before that. In later centuries it was often used as refuge against the plague and Turkish invasion. It was abandoned in 1790, but it underwent restoration about ten years ago.

Hej Lars,
Det är en fin komposition med tornet sett genom valvet. Grusvägen håller ihop förgrund och bakgrund. Det hade kunnat vara en nästan tidlös bild om det inte vore för antennerna (?) på kullen. Som så ofta vid annalkande oväder blev det en fantastisk kombination av kolsvart himmel och start, varmt ljus. Det är mycket effektfullt.

A fine DOF with good view through the arch, Lars.
The trail from one gate to another enabled to comprehend the size of this citadel.

Hi Lars,
fantastic photo! You have here everything a photographer could wish for. The light most of all was very good. The sky at the back so dark and makes perfect background for the well lit architecture.
The gate entrance makes a spectacular framing and the road leads the eye to the tower in the centre.
Everything well thought through but also great help with conditions you experienced.

Hi Lars,
Semi circular arch shows just wonderful landscape. Hillside pastures with yellow flowers are beautiful. The tower is well restored and the dark sky adds contrast.
